GW Exotic Animal Park (Closed) GW Animal Park Discussion

I'm assuming he's hoping they can still "rescue" animals and take in a few circus elephants. I'd love to see how he plans on getting the land and funding, though.

The new place run by Jeff Lowe is going to be called "Red River Safari", in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
Assuming he doesn't end up in jail, too.

Joe's trial began today. His defense is trying to say Jeff Lowe was the actual ring leader of the murder-for-hire plot, with Joe just being the one who got them caught. The treatment of the animals is also a big factor. There's been a lot going on behind the scenes but for the purposes of this forum, it's better to stick to what is mentioned in the media. Article

Joe hasn't been the owner of the zoo for years now - he sold it to Jeff when he started having financial troubles, to try and hide assets and protect the zoo. Jeff was originally hands off, but kicked Joe out last year. The "zoo", which no longer exists, has very few animals left; most were sold to anyone with the cash or killed (I don't have an easy link for that, but it's been brought up during the trial). Jeff has been trying to acquire new animals for his proposed zoo but hasn't been very successful. I assume any animals Jeff has would go to his business partners if he ends up in jail as well, or otherwise sold/placed in sanctuaries.

This whole thing is now being turned into a tv show, with Kate McKinnon playing Carole Baskin. Joe Exotic murder-for-hire case to be turned into a TV series starring 'Saturday Night Live's' Kate McKinnon
The article says if the series comes to fruition, so it is not a done deal. Clearly Joe Exotic was eccentric to say the least (putting it in as kind of a term as possible). And hiring someone to murder Carole Baskin is outrageous. However, Carole Baskin (whom I have personally met) is an anti-zoo animal rights extremist who routinely spreads misinformation about captive welfare and also hides her facility's past as a breeding center and purchaser of animals. (The first time I met her she was wearing a jacket with genuine leopard fur lapels, something I don't think she would want any of her current supporters to know). My fear is that if this program is made it will portray Carole Baskin in a completely sympathetic light as a big cat rescuer and hide her and her facility's past (which she goes to great lengths to do). Even worse, it will increase support for her organization and their aggressive anti-zoo legislative drives.

Based on comments in the facebook group, it's pretty close to a done deal, they're looking for cats and whatnot. I agree with you about her, as well. Neither one deserves the attention they'll get from a show based on them.
