I do agree that the need to avoid any more disastrous publicity will probably over-ride other considerations at present, and the upshot may result in no new male being added for some while.

Incidentally, are there any plans to move the male tiger on? I hope so, as killing another female would be disastrous publicity!

Can I just go back to my previous post, isn't it strange 3 male gorillas dying in a short space of time is unusual. Maybe being in a heavily polluted city doesn't help. Not anti zoo in any way, having been a zoo keeper for the majority of my life. But it must be said that you have Whipsnade that desperately needs a new stand out exhibit, maybe London zoo concentrate on more smaller conservation based species?

Back that up with other inner city zoos and then it may be worth considering. But I highly doubt the pollution just targets the males.

Plus they all haven't died of the same thing.

Oh London Zoo :( was planning a visit this weekend, first time in months, and it sounds like there won't be many animals left. No more Bearded Pigs, very sad, they had such character.

A new pig species in the pipeline is very good though, will be interesting to see what they go with. I'd like Red River Hog, they're engaging and colourful.

Bet you it will be Visayan warty pigs. Fits with 'Asian' theming and they seen to be ten a penny these days. Of course, in my dreams the answer would be to totally renovate that yard for a bachelor male Indian rhino and rotate him with Hugo at Whipsnade.

It was, I believe, originally behind the Decimus Burton llama house (i.e. the clocktower), quite close to its current position on the Fellow's Lawn.

Do you mean the old Raven Cage or the old British Crows Aviaries?

As "oflory" has already mentioned, the old Raven Cage was situated near the Clock Tower not far from where it still stands on the Fellows' Lawn (although of course it no longer houses any animals).

The old British Crows Aviaries (which once held every British species of crow, including ravens) ran alongside the edge of Regent's Park, not far from the current Penguin Pool.
 
I was wondering if anyone has a link to old zoo guides for London please as I have a few with no dates on or inside
