Who and how many zoochatters have you met?

To manufacture something like that you need to make a certain number to offset the cost of setting up the equipment to produce it. How many you have to make on a first run, I don't know (a hundred, five hundred?)

I've seriously looked into this for my own artistic projects recently, and the smallest number of a pin run is generally 50 pins. A good manufacturer will also quality check the design pre-production, to ensure the design will work as a pin. In addition backing cards might be required, so designing and printing of those would need factoring in also. But a small run of pins is perfectly feasible, as is clothing, patches, stickers. Once you have an appropriate design it can be put on most things.

ZooChat merchandise has been on my todo list for a long time now. Right now my priority is getting the site upgraded, but once that's done I'll make an effort to get something done.

It would definitely encourage it and I would purchase such merchandise myself! It would be a good way to bring further revenue to the site.

I might have seen AmbikaFan yesterday at the Turtleback Zoo, or maybe Jena... if either of them were there.

After yesterday's meetup with @CGSwans here is my updated list (in alphabetical order). Please note some users are no longer on the site (hopefully not because I drove them away!).

Ok so here is an updated list for ZooChatters I have met in person.

@LEOcreature at Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park (2012)

@Zoonewsguy at Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens and Reid Park Zoo more times than I can count as well as at Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park and in Jacksonville, Florida.

@mstickmanp at Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens (2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018)

@DavidBrown at Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens (2012, 2014, and 2018)

@Blackduiker at Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens (2012 and 2014)

@team tapir (Both of them) at Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens (2014)

Michael Dee at Los Angeles Zoo in 2014 and 2016 and at Reid Park Zoo in 2017

@ThylacineAlive at SeaWorld San Diego, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park, Orange County Zoo, Emerald Forest Bird Gardens, Gibbon Conservation Center, Fountain Valley Reptile Zoo, and Anza Borrego Desert State Park (all in 2018)

@betsy at San Diego Zoo in 2018

@Arizona Docent at Reid Park Zoo (2018) as well as other places here in Tucson after that.

@GraysonDP at the 2018 AZA Mid-year conference hosted by Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in 2018 and at Dallas Zoo in 2019.

@Giant Eland at different wildlife watching spots in Cochise County, Arizona and Hidalgo County, New Mexico (2019)

@TheMightyOrca at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History (2019)

If there I some I can't remember, please let me know and I will update this list yet again. I had solid plans to meet @lintworm at different zoos in Arizona earlier this year, @jbnbsn99 at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge in northern Texas in late July of 2019, and @Ituri at Sedgewick County Zoo in August of 2019 but unfortunately neither plan came to fruition. The former because of Covid 19 and the latter of two because of a bad car accident west of Fort Worth that got my truck totalled. I do hope to meet plenty more in the future when this pandemic is behind us.

This is a long thread and I can't remember if I've posted on it before, but once things settle down and the Detroit Zoo is opened, let's see if we can organize a Zoo Chat meet up there. Maybe we can arrange it for after the penguin display is reopened.

I haven't met anyone from this site but that is partially my own fault seeing as how I remember @Arizona Docent offering to meet up during the opening of the Californian Trail exhibit in Oakland zoo and I had to unfortunately decline. If you are ever in the area after quarantine @Arizona Docent I'll make it up to you.

I know there are a handful of zoochatters that live around here in Northern California so maybe we can all meet up one day and then I can have an actual lineup of who I met :D.

Well you never know, but I have no plans to return at the moment. I was in the area last fall but did not go to Oakland Zoo, opting instead for my first (very quick) visit to San Francisco Zoo, before moving on to my three night stay in Point Reyes.
