As we rapidly approach the end of 2019, I guess the time has come to look back at the almost bygone year. There are already a few topics looking back at 2019, but I believe we do not have this one yet. For those of us who do photography, which photos you took in 2019 did you really like, were you really happy with or proud of?

For me personally, the following ten would rank very high. There were many more that I could think of - especially the ones I recently had printed into two photo album books - that could be here but I have to chose a small set for the purposes of this thread so here are my ten.

Since my favorite photographic subjects are architecture (especially Europe) and landscape, my favorite photos of 2019 were Colmar (France), Grand Canyon in snow, and Bryce Canyon sunrise and night. However if we are talking about animal photos posted on ZooChat, then here are a few:

Mexican wolf pup at Phoenix Zoo

ocelot mother & kitten at El Paso Zoo

Love the sand cat and wolf pup @Arizona Docent
I don't really put my favourite photos in the gallery because I thought the space was kind of limited. Usually, i'll try to add subjects that haven't been included yet (new borns, new species etc) or something just to highlight some detail or other. Any I consider posting for purely for cuteness etc, are usually outshone by other photographers :D

Chimpanzee at the Saint Louis Zoo, the first time I photographed one. Mostly due to the fact that I don't see them very often.

Don't need to explain why this is one of my favorites

Their male, I presume, always sticks their head down over the fence within an easy arm's reach. Can't stand fences in my photos but I love the sun meeting in between their reaches.

This closes out my fifth year as a photographer BUT it was disappointing compared to the other four. Video and exhibit photos have taken over.

@Moebelle Good stuff. (And good stuff from @KevinB as well). When you say (re: Georgia Aquarium) your only commercial shot, do you mean the only one you sold this year?

Right back at you. My definition of a commercial photograph, well actually it is the true definition, is a picture that appears as if it could be/is used as advertisement. So nope:) it was never sold, in fact I've never sold my work to anyone. Though on a positive note, the Pittsburgh Zoo said they would use my Water's Edge footage as advertisement.

I had no difficulty selecting my favourite image from 2019. An interesting and attractive pair of subjects, in good poses, with a nice background. I particularly like the subtle combination of colours.

That is a very nice picture indeed. Once the "ZooChat Photo of 2019" thread is up this once should absolutely be nominated.

I do use quite a lot of time photographing this shot, and I really enjoy it. It isn't the most clear photo, but I did capture the tongue.

This is also quite good in my mind.

I know the bars are still there, but it's quite hard to photograph this baby.

The last one is this, which I think is quite a good portrait.

My 3 favorite photo's I posted on Zoochat are:
Mr. James at WWT Slimbridge
A close-up of a Grey crowned crane at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm
And a wild male lion during sunset in South Africa

But I have still a load of photo's that I didn't post (or even post processed).
Two special moments are in top of mind at the moment. There is a nice series of nightphoto's with artificial illumination from a hide at a drinking pool in the wild with buffalo or elephants or a leopard. The other one is a series of plains zebra in the snow.

Although I am relatively new to ZooChat for having been on here for a few months, I was fortunate enough to get these and I think I am truly happy seeing them each time I went through my memory card. Most were taken with my starter camera, Nikon Coolpix B500. The only one that is from my newly acquired camera, Nikon Z 50, is of the Indochinese Green Magpie. I’m very thankful that there are others who post amazing photos that inspire me to be better at amateur photography all while learning more about species I wasn’t ever too familiar with and being part of this community has been awesome :) Happy New Years Day to everyone!
