@Elephantelephant Thank you for opening a new thread! According to the latest information, the Brehm building (including the section for Sun Bears) is to open this spring before easter, along with the remodelled enclosures you mentioned. By the way @AthleticBinturong the vulture aviary is to become a walk-through (or rather walk-in) aviary, as they are going to open a small corner of it for visitors. Besides that it will receive some minor polishing such as fresh black colour for the fence (Mr Knieriem detests green fences) and new plants embedding it. There is a picture in the 2019 thread, but it does not show very much yet.

Speaking of 2019, Tierpark Berlin also released a video revisiting some highlights of the previous year:

2020 will see the start of two huge and at least two small projects:
-The mentioned modernisation and restructuring of the old pachydermy building which is to cost around 30 million Euro and probably take at least as long as the Brehm building.
-The creation of the Himalaya complex by restructuring the huge mountain zoo area (estimated 5 million Euro)
-said otter enclosure (750.000 Euro)
-redesign of several bird aviaries (500.000 Euro)

Besides that there will be hundreds of new signs for the animals and some modernisation and extension of the toilets.

Yes, snow leopards, red pandas and François langurs are to be part of the Himalaya area.

I don't know, if the old building is to be renovated and put back in use. The money mentioned by the media goes to the new complex in and around Brehm building. The text gives a wrong impression there.

Will the entire mountain area be Himalayan species only? Or will it keep some of the European species there now and compliment them with a Himalayan area?

As far as I understand there will only be species from the Himalaya region or at least very close to it. They want to create a small area for European species near the old castle, though.

I visited the Tierpark on August 9th and here is the list of 19 species that I saw in the zoo's 'mountain area': Moose, Sichuan Takin, Mouflon, Afghanistan Red Sheep (apparently the sign should have read Transcaspian Urial), Central Chinese Goral, Marco-Polo Argali, Markhor, Bharal, Chamois, Alpine Ibex, Thorold’s Deer, Eurasian Lynx, European Wild Cat, Dhole, Steller’s Sea Eagle, Bearded Vulture, Ural Owl, Snowy Owl and Common Crane.

What about Pallas's Cat?
 
There is some new information on the elephant transfers now, i.e. it is new to me (of course, none of this is official or certain yet):
-African Elephants (0,3):
0,1 Pori: Halle
0,2 Kariba and Lilak: Kronberg (near Frankfurt)
-Asian Elephants (1,6):
0,2 Louise and Frosja: Augsburg early in summer 2020
1,4: Kewa + offspring (Thuza *2008, Pantha *2012, Edgar *2016) alongside Astra: ?

So most destinations seem clear by now. Still some sources speak of possible transfer schedules right up to November.

Meanwhile, there has been a visual update on the new walk-through exhibit for tree kangaroos at the Brehm Building:

Exciting times...
 
Really wanted to go back to Berlin and visit both zoos again but with so much building work going on not sure it is worth it atm. Might wait till its all complete.

Looking forward to seeing the changes.
 
@taun I don't know when you last went, but if you want to wait until "everything" is finished, you may have to wait a veeery long time, as the process just began and there will be many new projects starting continuously... o_O

As for the Tierpark, there also will be some interesting stuff getting completed every year or every other year now:
2019: modernised monkey building
2020: Brehm building (including two walk-through-exhibits and some new species), modernized exhibits for cheetahs, penguins and vultures (the latter will also be turned into a walk-through-exhibit)
2021-2022: Himalaya, various Africa exhibits and smaller projects and some interesting new species again
2023-2025: elephant building (it is scheduled to open earlier than that, but I think this is somewhat realistic)
