Almost all of the hoofstock :( I was really looking forward to visiting in a year or two and getting to do the monorail! It was closed when I went because of heat, so I was going to make sure to go during a cooler time :(
 
One of the three remaining zoo monorails in the USA is closing? This is awful. I truly enjoyed the Dallas monorail. However it could be a plus for ZooChatters if they make the track a walking path, since there was no way to linger at those exhibits before.
 
So the zoos recent master plan did not include the monorail. The monorail only exhibits were slated to be used for either a ground ride or a walking trail I believe. The plan did not anticipate the monorail closing so soon I believe, with monorail redevelopment slated for the later stages of the plan. So I doubt the zoo has any plan in the short-term to make these exhibits accessible. On Facebook the zoo said the closure was short notice, so the zoo did not have a lot of details. So I doubt the hoofstock are going anywhere fast, the main cost savings are probably just the cost of running the monorail.

Not another abandoned exhibit, Dallas has enough of those right now and a fourth would just be terrible. I agree with you the come a few years, the area will become a walking path, but who knows how long that will be. The animals on the monorail will probably stay at the zoo, but stay of exhibit, as there collection is to large to transfer all at once.
 
That’s horrible. I’m so saddened by this news. I’ve always wanted to visit Dallas. It seems like a REALLY good zoo. I’ve always wanted to see their hippo exhibit and the giants of the savanna. They’ve had it really rough this past couple of years. I hope things get better for them soon
