One great thing about year-listing is always the weird order in which you see things! Only just now saw a redwing, which is usually the very first or second thrush I see in a year, but is now already the 6th!
In comparison, I didn't even see 6 thrushes total in Europe last year. :p

BIRDS:

Went out to Cheney State Park west of Wichita again this weekend. In a 30 second span I saw a Short-eared Owl, a herd of White-tailed Deer and about half a dozen bald eagles.

69 Short-eared Owl - Asio flammeus
70 Northern Mockingbird - Mimus polyglottos

Frustrating time since the start of the new year. Every plan to go birdwatching has fallen through because of meetings etc. I have yet to see a single bird through binoculars. At the same time many birds that were seen almost daily before Christmas around Moonlit seem to have disappeared. Anyway, things are due to change big time next month.

My first ever fork tailed swift was seen at moonlit too. I’ve never seen fairy or tree martins though.

Today it was mostly tree martins, with a couple of fairy martins and one swift and swallow also seen. I can't recall seeing so many before, at least in recent years.

It would be really good if people could mention in their posts where they saw the animals they see, especially if it was somewhere different or special. It would help others plan their own wildlife watching. Just a personal suggestion from me.
