While the documentary doesn't contain much new information (it was filmed in July this year), it still provides an interesting look behind-the-scenes and at the challenges in constructing the new park. There will likely be follow-up episodes in the future as the new park takes shape.

Fun watch. Are we to expect a name change? One of the guys at the construction site had "Mandai Bird Park" embroidered on his sleeve. I know it won't be in Jurong anymore, but I like the cultural shorthand.

I hope to visit again before Jurong is shuttered, but, perhaps more importantly, I hope the collection isn't savaged. The hornbills in particular.

Also, does anybody recognize the sticker on the laptop in the meeting with Anais? It's something Monkey Park, but I can't make out the first word.

A new name is being considered, Mandai Bird Park is just the working name. The sticker reads Arashiyama Monkey Park (in Japan) i think.

Consider this a second vote to keep the current name or some variation; i.e., New Jurong. Though, there's always the newly verbose American sporting team rebranding track. For example,the Los Angeles Area Anaheim Angels or the San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara.

Ridiculous, right? New Jurong Bird Park at Mandai!

Thanks for the help on the sticker. It's now on the list of places to visit.
 
Dear all, anyhow has idea where is Jary now, the hornbill cancer warrior. During the recent visit, It was not in the exhibition area anymore.

It won't be named after Jurong, and the word "Mandai" won't be in it either. That is, unless they decide to change the name again, because a lot of staff groaned at the reveal of the new name.

Did they settle on 'Bird Paradise' in the end? :D
 
I'm sad to share that the 0.2 Spix's macaws and 2.2 Lear's macaws will be returning to their original holders in a month's time. They are already off show for pre-export quarantine. I understand it is because Jurong has amicably ended its participation in the Blue Macaws conservation project.

That's disappointing. Do you know why? I always think they will be last till it relocate at least

Sorry for the late reply. Quite busy with things on my end. I am not kept informed about the Jurong Bird Park's plans, however my source from JBP is telling me the park is planning to procure 1.1 for Spix's. It is not 100% and may fall through, though it would be weird to end the project only to require a possible breeding pair.
 
That is sad news! When I visited the 9th of Februari both were still on show, and visible.

Not yet metioned (as far as I know) were the green oropendola in the first wings of paradise exhibit.

Interesting. While i have not heard about plans to acquire new Spix's, i did hear that Jurong was not satisfied that their loan agreement only provided a non breeding pair. Perhaps Jurong is looking to negotiate a new loan agreement with breeding rights.

Which institutions loaned them to Jurong in the first place?
 
@BucerosKeeper Do you know if the Shoebills are being returned to Al Wabra too? Seems like they've been moved to the Zoo for quarantine as well.
