The main two things about Cabarceno is that it is a) nothing like any other zoo and b) enormous - the elephant enclosure alone covers more area than Madrid Zoo(!).
The animal collection doesn't have too many rarities or surprises (though there are some) but the enclosures are unbelievable. Any other display of European Brown Bears will be vaguely disappointing for the rest of my life! It's also quite a good place for bird-watching..!
It's not perfect (the porcupine enclosure - where did that come from? Awful!) but the majority of the exhibits are impressive and several are outstanding (elephants(/buffalo/lechwe), bears, tigers and baboons among the very best). And they do a very entertaining falconry display.
The photos that will follow when the gallery's ready will give something of an idea of the place, I hope!
