Dierenrijk Europe Dierenrijk news

At Dierenrijk Brown bears and Wolves are kept together in a large enclosure but yesterday this went completly wrong. The wolves were playing and one of them felt into one of the pond. When he crawled out of the pond, one of the Brown bears attacted him and later the animal died :(.

At an age of 31 years Harbour seal Mickey has past away :(. Mickey was one of the first animals at Dierenrijk and was a real personality.

This weekend a new exhibit for Indian rhino will be opened. They will share the outdoor enclosure with Nilgai, Hog deer and Visayan warty pig.

From Zoo Berlin came 2 females and a young male came from Beauval. The females will move back to Berlin in 2 years time when the new Rhino house opens there. A new female will then come to Dierenrijk to establish a breeding pair.

I just uploaded approximately 80 photos from my August 2nd, 2019, visit into the ZooChat gallery. This was an opportunity to shine a spotlight on an underrepresented Dutch zoo.

Does anybody here has a bit more details about the new Rhino exhibit, especially the exact size ? I couldn't find anything in the web. Thanks.

I don't have exact dimensions, but I visited the zoo last summer and the rhino exhibit is a very impressive addition.

Here is a link that contains a slide-show of 9 diagrams that extensively cover a series of blueprints for the rhino exhibit:

Sadly some pieces of excrement found it necessary to commit a burglary at Dierenrijk recently. They broke into the restaurant building (at least I think that's what is shown in the photo in the post linked below) and unfortunately did a lot of damage in the process, as they made two holes in the roof. So infuriating that people have to do this kind of crap to others' property and business. I hope they can be tracked down and punished.

Luckily no staff or animals were harmed.

i do question their motivs... there's nothing to steal in a zoo's restaurant??!?

As a restaurant employee myself I do question why they aimed at the restaurant instead of stealing some valuable bird for the black market.
At the same time, this makes me more relieved they didn't steal a animal.
