If it helps you a little: some of the established European zoos, including Antwerp, have survived two World Wars and yet, still exist and are going to open again once this has passed.and I fear for the future of zoos a lot.

I haven't begun to get supplies delivered yet, so I hadn't thought about necessary safety protocols. It's not hard to pass along the virus via the delivery handoff and materials, so a biology professor just posted this at my college:
"Hi. In case you didn't already know this, there's a certain protocol for food deliveries which should be followed to minimize exposure to the virus.
Ideally you wear gloves, answer the door, keep a (> 6ft) distance from the delivery person (but hopefully give a big tip!), and:
DO NOT BRING THE CONTAINERS SENT FROM THE STORE INSIDE YOUR HOME.
The virus can survive up to 4 hrs on cardboard and up to 72 hours on plastic, and then there are all kinds of unknown variables regarding the person dropping the food off and things happening on the delivery route etc.
So ideally you (while wearing gloves) transfer the food into your own containers OUTSIDE your home, dispose off the store containers and your gloves OUTSIDE, and bring the food inside.
One good thing: current research indicates that the virus may not be able to be transmitted through food, in the sense that even if the food was infected, the way the virus operates and the way our digestive system operates suggests that one wouldn't get sick through ingesting the virus, but only through respiratory avenues."
Yes, I agree. Don't let the talk of euthanasia from that small zoo owner mess with your head. Except for possibly pangolins and bats, animals are not at risk from this virus, and I'm certain that large zoos and even private citizens will take on animals from smaller zoos. Once I read SnowLeopard's trek following our border with Canada and heard of all those tiny little podunk places that maybe have 10 animals living in poor conditions, I was no longer so sure that we need every tiny zoo. We may lose a few of them, but I don't think we'll lose their animals.
@Kevin B, my flowering trees and shrubs are starting to burst into color! Fortunately Nature has not been affected either. Go take a walk and breathe in the air and see color for the first time in five months!
Dogs can also contract the virus but they cannot spread it.

What's your source? Is there a link you could post?
My state of Ohio issued a statewide stay at home order, effective at midnight tonight. We can go out to take walks and for essential services, but no gatherings of any kind, it seems.

Nope. No joining clubs I’m afraid.
Unless you are 21 or above, I guess you're out of luck. How about the social distancing club? Or the stay at home club?

It is not difficult to wipe down any packaging from the grocery store or food delivery or Amazon with a dilute bleach solution before putting the items away. Then wash your hands well. Just be very aware of what else these items touch as you prep to clean them. Set them on the floor rather than the counter until you have wiped them down. It all takes a couple of minutes.I haven't begun to get supplies delivered yet, so I hadn't thought about necessary safety protocols.
