Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Columbus Zoo News 2020

also last summer I did see sunny Beco and Rudy in the yard and the others in the other exhibit. I think they are trying to plan a herd for the future but I would Think everyone except Connie would be part of the future plan but it is weird but any news of more Asian elephants to support the population is exciting with what happened to the last calf born their

You're absolutely right. We need to think long-term obviously for optimal genetic pairing, but at the moment, every pregnancy is a gift we can't take for granted. If that breeding took, we could be within 9 months of a birth. It seems the AZA has decided that pregnancies shouldn't be announced until a few months before due date, so we may not know anything for quite a while unless a keeper will answer a direct question on the subject.

Yes it’s just a wait till it’s successful now

When I was their last winter I saw Beco and Rudy mate though I don’t know if it was successful but i’m hoping for a baby Rudy has great mom potential
I hope it was successful. I personally believed that perhaps Beco would mate with Rudy and Sunny. Hank was not successful (only through AI, but the zoo always prefers natural breeding). So I hope she gets pregnant, Rudy is 18 years old and the chances of getting pregnant are diminishing.

Did they ever announce whether it was Samson or Hank who was the sire of Phoebe's baby? It would go a long way to at least settling the issue of whether he is fertile or not. I've been wondering why they've waited to breed both girls; if European best practices are any lesson, even Sunny should start now, sooner rather than later.

I read in an article earlier that Ellie's father was Hank, but I don't know where it was anymore. Elephant breeding in North America is less planned than in Europe. The zoos needs to cooperate more and focus on its elephants.

No I don’t think they announced it

Same the problem is that male elephant don’t always mature as fast as females

See never been to eroupe zoos but yes I actually don’t know who was the father

Somebody know how much okapis the zoo have and what are their parents, birthdates and in what zoo they were born?

But,it is a little unnacurate for example:
At Cheyenne Mountain Zoo,there is only male Bahati and in the map it lists another male.
Also,at Oklahoma city zoo, Caroli died last year and they still list her.

what are to be exhibited here?
