This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for African Elephant's in the UK. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to perhaps list the enclosures in order of what they determine to be the best.

I decided not to include drive through enclosures as I don't think it is a fair comparison. As a consequence WMSP is not included in this poll.

This is a tough one as I strongly believe Howletts have the best outdoor enclosure(s) by far but they're indoors is pretty much non existent, but then they also have a massive breeding herd which is an absolute breath taker to experience. I loved it, massive highlight for me when I visited Howletts.

Current leader is Howletts with 50% of the vote. As mentioned above is this because of their superior outdoor enclosure. I would have thought Noah's ark has the largest exhibit but is let down by fewer elephants on show.

Results are in. Congratulations to Howletts on comfortably winning the vote for Best UK African Elephant enclosure with 13 votes. A mention also for Noah's ark with their more modern exhibit which put them in second place. Clearly in this instance members prioritised the outdoor exhibit over the indoor one.

Howletts: 59.1%
Noah's Ark 22.7%
Colchester 13.6%
Blair Drummond: 4.5%

As an aside if any one had wanted to vote in a poll please pm me and I will add your vote to the overall score and post the final results at a later date. Furthermore, some members have got in touch privately to request particular species, so if anyone has ideas which would fit the format well please message me and I will try to incorporate them.

BTW: You mIght have to review this once in between summer 2020 and end 2021 the WSMP finishes its elephant exhibit and fills up with a breeding group!

Colchester zoo the best in my slightly biast opinion but I'm not too off that picture does Elephant Kingdom dirty though tbh I can see why people thought differently.

Even though I agree Howletts does seem to have the best elephant set up, I think aesthetically Colchester's sandy pit and surrounds is a had more inviting.

Exhibit finished but no more elephants in sight yet...the two they currently have look rather lost in it, they are seperated also.

Although I haven't actually seen it, Noah's Ark appear to have both the largest and most modern facility anywhere in UK. Problem is they can't get enough elephants to fill it. Out of the four they have had so far(3.1) the first- cow Buta- died after a short residence, and now an adult bull has killed a younger one, leaving them just two males. I'm sure this wasn't what they anticipated when they built it.
