Does anyone know which Uk zoos have the largest collections of small cats? I'm including Serval, Bobcat (size) to Rusty Spotted (size). List who's got what, if you can. Thanks.

I am pretty sure it used to be Port Lympne, but whether or not that is still the case I am not sure. The Big Cat Sanctuary (formerly Wildlife Heritage Foundation) has an outstanding big cat collection, but only a few small cats. Of course your best bet for cats (both large and small) is to catch the Eurostar across the Channel and visit Le Parc Des Felins which has the best cat collection on earth (and some of the best enclosures also).

Exmoor, Axe Valley and Hamerton all have a great cat/small carnivore collections.

Some of the holdings listed above are a little outdated, I assume you used ZTL? *Edit, Dave posted his reply as I was typing this, my response was aimed at the earlier list*

7: ARK Wildlife Park & Exotic Animal Sanctuary: Jungle cat, northern lynx, serval, jaguarondi, leopard cat, fishing cat, rusty-spotted cat

They do not keep leopard cat or fishing cat :P as your own list notes!

I believe the Bobcat was the largest 'allowed' species that @qthemusic asked for, so that means that all lynx species other than Bobcats, big cats and cougars are not applicable.

If they are asking for small cats, they get small cats :P you can't pick and choose precise species within a single genus to count!

I know, I was just saying because on @Dassie rat's list he didn't include cougars but included lynx species, whereas on yours you added cougars hence one of the inconsistencies. However, essentially, I do agree with you - it does seem a bit odd. @qthemusic could the definition for the purposes of this thread be modified to include all traditionally-accepted 'small' cats (even though cougars are much larger than clouded leopards and normally larger than leopards and longer than jaguars)?

More to the point, Puma are congeneric with Jaguarundi :P and Asian Golden Cat are larger than most lynx.

Thanks TLD. I got my information from ZTL, so I accept that some information may be out of date. I didn't include cheetahs and pumas, as these are larger than the serval or bobcat, although I accept that some of the lynxes also fall outside the remit.

4: Axe Valley Wildlife Park: Jungle cat, serval, jaguarundi, leopard cat
Axe have Eurasian Lynx, Serval, Indochinese Leopard Cat, Fishing Cat and Jaguarundi... They lost their rusty spotted cat in the last year or so.

A species so nice, you just have to say it twice ;)

Wow! Thank you for that. Tons of interesting info. :)

Hoo Farm should have serval, caracal, bobcat, fishing cat, European/Scottish wildcat (both signed so not sure...), and rusty-spotted. They're also due to get jungle cats in the near future, unless they've already arrived whilst it has been closed.
