I've been a long collector of Schleich's figurines (and only those).
Since 2008 I believe, which is when I started with a jaguar and cheetah cub.

I've been collecting them every once in a while and got a pretty neat collection in my shelf.

I'll post my collection list in a spoiler below due to the length of the list to not clog up the thread.
There is no particular order with numbers or whatsoever but I tried ''grouping'' certain species as much as I could.

That'r really good! Glad that your nephew was able to acquire even retired models (Schleich sloth bear), even during the quarantine time!

Yes these are the first few got the Sloth Bear from e-bay £6.75 with p&p for him.
He has now ordered a few more for him from Collecta Collection & Papo collection will update when he gets them (He hasn't told what species they are yet).

I have a burning question to those here who collect from multiple brands.

As I mentioned before, I have a strict Schleich's only collection.
However I wondered, would you consider adding figurines from other brands could hurt the collection since it currently is so Schleich's heavy?

Also, what brands would you consider to be the best?
I personally find Collecta to have a nice variaty and Papo has some nice invertebrates and reptiles. But are there any other good brands out there?

I currently have 10 brands in my collection, totalling about 220 figures. I agree CollectA and Papo are generally the best for detailing and paint jobs. Schleich and the newer Safari figures are also quite good. Safari is the most populous brand in my collection, however they are also the easiest and cheapest figures here in the states.
Mojo has some interesting figures not made by other brands, but their quality varies widely.
I also have figures from Yowie, Southlands, Homonive, PNSO, Chap Mei, Yujin, and soon Kaiyodo. I can't say too much on these because for most I only have one figure, but Southlands, Chap Mei, and Yujin are the best of the singles.

I think it really depends on the purpose of your collection. There's nothing wrong with collecting just one brand, especially if that's what is available to you! Schleich is an easy one to collect, given their availability in stores and zoos, how long they keep most available before retiring, and the relatively low number of new animals each year (especially if you're only collecting actual animals, and not all of their other stuff). Most retired animals are relatively easy to find online, as well.

Some people collect only certain species across all brands, or types of animals. Others, like Kakapo, prefer to find the best representative of each species. I mostly pick up cheetahs and a few other species I like if I have the money when I see them; I haven't ordered any online or anything because I have other collections I'd prefer to spend my money on (especially art done by animals), as much as I like the plastic animals.

This is a good one. To my experience with general toy stores in the Netherlands you really just see Schleich's. In a more specialist store for figurines you might come across some papo or CollectA. In zoos themselves it's also usually Schleich's who dominate the figurine shelves, if not like their own kinds of figurines.

Now online shopping is more of a thing these days I guess the rest has just become more accessible to me as well. Hence why I wonder if mixing would be a good one since I would like to see my collection grow further.

I agree CollectA and Papo are generally the best for detailing and paint jobs.

Actually I find Papo very hit or miss. A figurine looks either excellent or just poor. I like CollectA's diversity.

I'm considering to start to expand with maybe some CollectA figurines and see how I like those alongside my Schleich's and further grow from there.
