This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for South American Tapir's in the UK. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to perhaps list the enclosures in order of what they determine to be the best.

There are quite a few exhibits I couldn't find photos for so if anyone has visited these could they give a quick description/provide a photo.

If you want to vote for any of the options not explicitly mentioned in the poll, vote for the other option and then comment in the thread who you wanted to vote for.

Unfortunately, there are no photos of this enclosure in the gallery. It would be extremely useful if someone who has visited can describe the exhibit and give an evaluation on its quality.

The Tropiquaria enclosure is very simple, just an open grassland with a few tapir and capybara, nothing too standout.Howletts has more than what is shown. There is a more open area behind.

The Tapir enclosuses looks amazing although I am suppose to pick which collection has the best tapir exhibits and I have gone for Longleat

Tapir seem to be another somewhat "neglected" species in the UK. Whilst I have never seen a truly awful exhibit in person, I can't remember seeing anything spectacular either...

Most tapir exhibits just seem to be "okay"... Saying that, there are some exhibits that stand out me me. Noah's Ark have a great new South American house, with the tapir having access to two of the stalls. I remember being happy to see plentiful tree coverage when visiting Flamingo Land and Cotswold, both were a refreshing change.
Other than what I've outlined above, I don't recall anything too exciting... But like most I'd imagine, I don't often spend much time focusing on tapir exhibits when visiting zoos.

I find myself unable to vote in this poll, as I'm not familiar enough with the exhibits (I had a similar stance with the Giraffe and Komodo polls).

*I use the word "neglected" in terms of not being given standout exhibits, not for a lack of care... (Just making that clear).

I agree, I am struggling to think of any enclosure that really stands out, all are adequate but fairly similar.
I'd be interested to know where the 'other' votes are for? Perhaps I've forgotten or haven't seen somewhere

I agree. It surprises me that some enclosures are very small and full of mud, nothing else. But the worst is Paignton. Is that all they have?
It is a bit difficult to judge from just one photo of a small section of the exhibit in most cases. It also depends what time of year a photo was taken!

The Dartmoor photo is also not the greatest. I believe the tapirs also have access to a massive paddock with a large pond which is shared with capybara and rhea.

Of those listed I think it is between Newquay and Linton for me. Linton have a breeding record second to none as well

Yes the Newquay exhibit is very good. That photo doesn't actually show the whole exhibit, that is the island for Coppery Titis. There is a large field surrounding that that has tapirs mixed with I believe capybaras and others.

South Lakes' Tapir enclosure is the best!
And what's in the photo from Howletts is everything, or do they have something more?
I'm not a British zoo expert but I think Paignton has better enclosures normally.
Paignton does have far better enclosures, but I actually believe which their South American Tapir enclosure is quite a good one.It has a large pool, dense grass and a mud wallow, but yes,it will certainly not be winning.

Howletts actually has one of my favourites. It is very large with some dense areas and some open areas. They share with Cabybara and Rhea.

I am not quite sure what South Lakes has going for it compared to the vast enclosure at Marwell or the fantastic, mixed enclosure at Longleat(I mean mixed as in it provides a variety of different environments).

Yes it does.Dartmoor is in fact one of my favourites.

Both of these are very impressive.I did not know about Linton’s breeding record either. For me,it is between Marwell and Longleat.
