Best UK Red River Hog enclosure?

This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Red River Hogs in the UK. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to perhaps list the enclosures in order of what they determine to be the best.

If anyone has any photos of enclosures that I have failed to find a photo of or those such as Edinburgh where the photo only shows a tiny proportion of the exhibit could you please share them or provide a description if you have visited.

I think some of them are not great because they are entirely lacking soft substrate, which is absolutely necessary in an enclosure for almost any type of hog. Anyways, I think Paignton is the best (of reasonable size, with nice and soft substrate and decent vegetation). London might actually be in contention for this one, although I doubt the concrete floor of the pavilion lets them dig much deeper than the depth of the substrate...
 
Are we discounting half of Chesters outdoor enclosure as they don't have access to it in winter?

Same with knowsely come to think of it.
 
For me, it has to be Woburn. It has great design, looks good, has the space and the substrate needed and it is themed nicely.

Also, you forgot Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Their red river hog enclosure is pretty good.

I thought they had been replaced by Warty Pigs. I may be wrong though.

Thanks for the info, however I can't find any photos of the Peccary exhibit either.

Well, I'd suggest take it into account with the caveat that it is only available to them for half a year.
 
Yep, no Red River Hogs at YWP now - they have indeed been replaced by warty pigs.

Does the gate open at the back?


Some of these enclosures shock me. Doesn’t seem like many for them have even tried to recreate the natural habitat of the Hogs.
 
Not really many stand-out enclosures here. Paignton's is massive but Chester's certainly looks the best. I'm not sure for now.

The only way to do that is to give them such a large area that there destructive nature cannot over take plant life growing back.

Yes, I think it is important to remember that the hogs' natural habitat is some of the thickest rainforest on Earth, not an arid semi-desert depicted by some of the enclosures, namely Chester, Colchester, Woburn and Wild Place among others.

Of course there are issues with them destroying plants, and some zoos have tried to recreate the forest without letting the damage the plant life (London), and some have had sturdy trees in place that the hogs can't move as the vegetation, which is much better than nothing (Howletts, Paignton).
 
The photo of Edinburgh's enclosure is the old Red River Hog enclosure, they are now in the enclosure that was previously used for the Painted Dogs, I'm not sure if there is a picture of this enclosure in the gallery that you can swap the current picture with?

I do appreciate that this is incredibly hard, however if you aren't even going to bother to try then you have to ask is it appropriate to even keep them to begin with? The Wild Place and Flamingo land enclosures look dreadful to me. They are not farm animals.
