San Francisco Zoo San Francisco Zoo News 2020

The zoo reopened to members only on July 13th, with everyone else having to wait until July 15th. The zoo will only have 50% capacity at its max, outside attractions are available only, people have to social distance, use hand sanitizer, wear masks, take food only from the restaurants and cafes in the zoo, and groups are prohibited from entering the zoo.

Did some searching regarding the zoo's construction (Madagascar exhibit and snow leopard exhibit) and found some interesting sites:

Instagram account of the contractor CA Bear Construction (their website does not appear to work). Images show some of the exhibit renders and the progress of concrete work.

A PDF of a master plan concept presentation. An interesting note is the relocation of the entrance and construction of a parking structure, which is planned to coincide with the closure of the road (Great Highway) that borders the western edge of the zoo because of coastal erosion.

I like the idea behind the oceanic park. Just when reading and looking into those masterplan documents I was struck how many - darn - roads intersect and surround the zoo allotment. It would be nice if the zoo, developers and city authorities would fix that too! I am glad though they plan on shutting the Highway along the coast. It is unsightly (allthough we have a lot of undesirable development close to our shorelines in the Netherlands ... a highway of sort all along the coast would be a definite no goer and total show stopper.

BTW: Just saw the movie Last Black Man in San Francisco. Rather revealing and telling story about the harbour precinct and how things have changed ...
