On Weltvogelpark Walsrode's website, you can read "With over 4000 birds from 650 species", but zootierliste only lists the current inventory of the park to 513 different species where several of these species seems to be behind the scenes or not held by the park anymore as they haven't been seen, in some cases, for years. (A few of these 513 species is snakes, sugar gliders, fish, turtles and similar as well).

Are they just living on with their old number of species even though the actual number is way lower, or is zootierliste missing 137+ bird species? :p:D

I don't think I've seen anyone talk about it here, but the Horned screamers are finally on show and are currently sharing enclosure with a group of American white pelicans. The enclosure is located between the penguins and the "pelican pond". Get your cameras and visit! ;)

Earlier they have only been poorly visible from the path in the backstage/behind the scenes area.

Some new species that have gone on show recently include Racket-tailed Treepie (individuals both in the Paradieshalle and near the Kiwi house) (only holding in Europe), Brown-breasted Hill Partridge (2nd holding in Europe), Asian Purple Heron (third holding in Europe), Chestnut-and-black Weaver (third holding in Europe), Rufous Night Heron (6th holding in Europe), Maguari and Virginia Quail. Other new species since my last visit include Maleo (2 pairs), Fawn-breasted Bowerbird and White-breasted Kingfisher, so even though there were 0 new aviaries since my last visit, plenty has happened on the animal front.

The Lesser Adjudant is now off-show behind the large free-flight aviary and with some luck can still be seen there. I did not see any Brolga, Hooded Crane or Black-faced Spoonbill anymore and these animals could well be gone from the collection.

Oh, no Broglas? Do you know what's kept in their enclosure now?

I don't know exactly which enclosure used to be theirs but from memory the crane enclosures held Black-necked Crane, Siberian Crane, Black Crowned Crane and maybe White-naped Crane (can't remember, seen too many of those recently...). on the one side and Red crowned Crane, European Crane & Steamer Ducks on the Bird of Prey side.

Interesting! The Brolgas has been kept in the last enclosure in the "crane walkway" up until last year, next to the big aviary that mostly holds African birds. Sounds like they replaced the Brolgas with the black crowned cranes as those used to be on the other side of the lake (1 enclosure away from the red crowned cranes).

Also, European cranes? They are new or put on show again then as well as they haven't been on show for some years. Nice.

I made this list for another purpose but thought that some other people might find it interesting or helpful, so why not post it here as well. Sorry in advance for a long post!

* The list doesn't include any private collections. Only public zoos.
* In some of the species, other zoos can hold the same "general" species, but might not hold the same subspecies as Walsrode. For example, Black-necked aracari (Pteroglossus aracari) is held by several European zoos. But Walsrode is the only European zoo that officially holds the Northern black-necked aracari (Pteroglossus aracari atricollis).
* Everything is according to ZTL, but it's possible that I missed something or did something wrong ;)

List 1 (Species/subspecies that is only held at Weltvogelpark Walsrode in Europe 2020)

2 new Barbet-species at Walsrode :
- Fire-tufted barbet
- Bearded barbet
I saw them both last year so I don't know why they just today posted them as new arrivals. I think the Racket-tailed treepies, Bar-backed partridges, Collared Trogons and more is way more new for this year? Two nice species anyway!

On Facebook the Birdpark itself mentioned them as being new, so I also don't know why they mentioned this if they were already in the collection last year.

I didn't see these species last year. Where are they kept?

I saw Bearded barbet in the Paradisienhalle last year.

I though it would be the fourth species of trogon in Walsrode, but the black-tailed trogons are no longer kept I saw on ZTL.

Red BoP is just like lintworm said above me behind the scenes completely.
The bowerbirds is right now in two aviaries in the "Blick hintern den Kulissen" part where visitors are welcomed to walk on a path to see a portion of the behind the scenes area.
They were kept in the same area last year a well.

And yes, AWP, it seems like the black-tailed trogons are gone from the park. They arrived to the park in 2018 and now in 2020 they are removed from zootierliste and no longer visible in the park. Pretty sad!

Here is a little list from my visit some days ago that is comparing the species to my visit in November last year (and some notes on ZTL). Keep in mind that there might be some errors and that the list is not covering all species at the park.

New species 2020 / Species put on show 2020:
Green peafowl (Pavo muticus)
Chestnut-naped imperial pigeon (Ducula aenea paulina)
Eastern purple heron (Ardea purpurea manilensis)
Socorro dove (Zenaida graysoni)
Common Linnet (Linaria cannabina cannabina) ??
Bar-backed partridge (Arborophila brunneopectus)
Collared Trogon (Trogon collaris)
Hooded merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus)
Eurasian crane (Grus grus grus)
Black-faced spoonbill (Platalea minor) - Reported as not seen on ZTL for some years, but I saw it during my last visit.
Southern crested caracara (Caracara [plancus] plancus)
Ural owl (Strix uralensis)

Species that is probably gone from the park as they are not on-show anymore, and they are removed from zootierliste:
Northern kori bustard (Ardeotis kori struthiunculus)
Black-tailed Trogon (Trogon melanurus)
