Safaripark Beekse Bergen Safaripark Beekse Bergen

A male okapi foal was born at the Beekse Bergen last friday. The male has been named Guus. According to the information given underneath the video he is the fourteenth okapi born in the last year and the second born at the Beekse Bergen since hey started keeping okapis in 2013.

Personally find it a little strange to give an African animal the typically Dutch name of Guus, against the general trend towards "native" names for zoo animals.

Seems to be a recurring thing of late with SBB - they named their baby gorilla Mies, which is also a typical Dutch name...

It is a little strange as most zoos nowadays often give animals "native" names, i.e. African names for African animals. Using typical, somewhat old school human names typical to the country a zoo is in seems like a bit of a throwback to a few decades ago.

Sad news from Beekse Bergen. After the loss of Mizzi the Golden-cheeked gibbon at an age of 53 year last year, now its long-time mate Erich past away at an age of approx. 35.
Erich spend 25 years of his life at Beekse Bergen.

I try to figure out how big Safari Parc Beekse Bergen is now, but wasn't able yet. I just found online that it "grew to 120 hectares in 1980" and that the new Safari Resort has 42 hectares.
Does that mean, that the parc covers now 162 hectares? And is there still additional space for exhibits (and if so: Where exactly and how much).
Thank you guys in advance for your help.

I have no idea how big it is in terms of size in hectares but just taking the zoo itself in account there is definitely room for new exhibits imo.

Another Grant zebra was born a male named James, this is already the third zebra that was born in the resort area this year.
The second zebra was born on the 20th of July, another female called Zara (mother is Adana)
The first zebra was born on the 5th of April, a female called Dani (mother is Lilly and father Homard).

Article about the birth of Dani (in Dutch).
