Entrance Animals

Roger Williams Park Zoo was mentioned here, but not to the full extent so I will just fill it in.

The first exhibit is a mixed African habitat with plains zebra, wildebeest (either blue or black I don't really know my gnus lol), Ankole Watusi cattle, and (until very recently) hooded vultures.

SDZ safari park has a weird opening exhibit. So first you see some macaws, then a massive wings of the world aviary. After that, you see a flamingo exhibit with a dam at the end of it with a waterfall leading into a lake with waterfowl, babirusa, warthog, and a few other exhibits around it. It's kind of like the opening land to the park.

Likely to be Blue Wildebeest. Black Wildebeest would have killed the vultures. Charismatic creatures, but they do some weird stuff. They would probably have a go at the Ankole to -- usually OK with zebras.

In Hungarian zoos, these animals are close to the entrance:
Budapest Zoo: near the entrance there are mostly parts of the park, closest animals are the Orangutans.
Sóstó Zoo: Californian sealion, Humboldt's penguin, a South-east Asia house named Green Pyramid
Szeged Zoo: Black-footed penguin, Brazza's guenon, Wolverine
Kecskemét Zoo: Asian small-clawed otter, Siberian tiger
Győr Zoo: playground, One-humped camel, Squirrel monkey
Debrecen Zoo: waterfowl, Peacock, Nile hippo
Veszprém Zoo: playground. Alpaca, Rhea, Impala, Grant's zebra, Kafue lechwe, White rhino, Giraffe

Late response, but I probably should have clarified it a bit more. The vulture exhibit was different from the mixed African habitat, and depending on which path you go, either or is the first exhibit.

Indian peafowl are sometimes the first animal I see, since they wander around freely. Once at the San Diego Zoo, I saw one even before I got through the front gate!

While this might sound random to some, mostly because of the previous lack of activity on this thread. I just want to ask if gibbons are a solid choice for an entrance animal?

Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo used to have pandas as their entrance animal, however they relocated them to another section in the zoo, so the current entrance animal there are native Japanese birds.

Stone Zoo doesn't have an entrance exhibit but the flamingos in the Caribbean Coast can be seen with either the Caribbean Coast or Yukon Trail as potential first exhibits. At Southwick's Zoo, the first animals are kangaroo, wallabies, and tortoises. New England Aquarium has harbor seals outside, near admissions.

When I was a child, if you came in Brookfield Zoo from the south entrance, chances are the first outdoor animal exhibit you'd see were the polar bears, just to the right - to the left was mostly indoor exhibits (besides the baboons) and the outdoor exhibits were further north. They made a great first experience.

Neither are a part of the aquariums entrance, they are a part of an area separate but near the entrance.
What would you say the entrance animals are? These were just the first animals I remember seeing when I enter it. Entrance animals don't have to be at the entrance, they can just be the first animals you see

The old Taru Jurug Zoo had a downwards ramp that led to a high viewing point for the zoo's Sumatran Elephants (an amazing view dampened by the fact that the elephants were chained by the leg).

The now-rebranded Solo Safari starts you with enclosures for Lowland Anoa, Binturong and Malayan Palm Civets, a very interesting albeit very shy collection of species. There are also a few roaming helmeted guineafowl, domestic turkey and green peafowl on zoo grounds.

Gembira Loka has petting zoo animals such as donkeys, ponies, goats and a few species of land tortoise (Sulcata, Red-footed and Leopard if I remember correctly) not too far from the zoo entrance. It's a somewhat long trek through the zoo's arboretum before you see larger zoo animals.

One of the two Gembira Loka Zoo entrance have two exhibits for Bangka Prevost's squirrel and cream-colored giant squirrel, quite a starters.

In Bandung Zoological Garden, a large mixed exhibit for siamang and Australian pelican can be seen from the entrance. Same goes to Aviary Park in Tanggerang Selatan, where the greater flamingo are very visible even from the parking lot.

Prior to the revitalization, the Bird Park of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah have small aviaries for Bali myna and an albino eastern hill myna

I feel like Mandalay just doesn’t have entrance animals, the freshwater crocodiles and Komodo feel more like their own thing and aren’t meant to serve as an introduction. I guess it’s debatable, but they are really more of a part of the jungle area than they are the entrance if you consider those two separate entities. If you had to go with any animal though the devils hole pupfish would fit better as entrance animals considering they represent the Nevada area and are at the very beginning.
