Wildlife World not provided vet care!? That's impossible:

Every time I hear about this place, the shadiness of it all and some of their habitats makes me think of it like a giant "roadside" zoo rather than a larger institution that refuses AZA accreditation for personal reasons. They try to make it seem like they are up there with the best in terms of animal care but you also don't have San Diego or Saint Louis with USDA complaints and accusations of poor vet care or selling animals that have no reason to be bred in American zoos to shady places where they are then lost. Because of this I can't help but have a negative opinion of the place.

It's a top 100 American zoo........

@ThylacineAlive Yes it is included in the book you reference. Since I was in correspondence with the authors before publication (for photo usage) I can tell you there was a debate as to whether or not to include it. I think the large collection diversity allowed it to make the cut. I also included it among the 17 zoos in my self-published book Zoos of the Southwest (and will add that they are the only zoo that purchased copies for their gift shop). However seeing the poor standards of their recent expansions I decided a few years ago that I would no longer visit this zoo and if I were to rewrite my book today I would not give them the same positive coverage.

Out of curiosity, any of you commenters actually spend more than one day, and speak to Mickey on a personal level for more than hour? @Arizona Docent you in particular, I know your from the area.

I haven't. And don't see how that is relevant. Not gonna change my view at least on the quality of its enclosures (especially new ones), association with roadside zoos and hunting ranches, breeding of white tigers, or the USDA reports.

@nczoofan Though I predictably knew what your opinion would be, wasnt really interested in it. Was much more curious about @Arizona Docent opinion, and more specifically what was disliked about the facility or problems with it. Considering past posting, I feel theres a better perspective.

You did ask “any of you commenters.” Why does it matter if any of us had an hour conversation with the guy? How many people here have had any significant conversations with any large zoo owner/president/CEO? I feel you can tell way more about an institution by their actions than by what any employee says. Right now, Wildlife World’s actions and importantly their inactions are saying a lot about them.

Well that enclosure doesn't look great from the video, and that stereotyping was slightly uncomfortable to watch!
Agree with both points. The last time I visited the zoo is when they opened the new AdventureLand and it was clear to me that they had no intention of improving their substandard exhibits or their animal care. That was the last time I visited and I can't imagine I would ever step foot in that zoo again.

Any of you know the current situation with Galapagos giant tortoises here?
Any information on their individual tortoises would be welcome.
