It’ll never happen but it would be wonderful to see a troop at Whipsnade atop the Escarpment, facing out across the Downs. Maybe utilise and expand the old American bison paddock.

However, I believe Gelada are one of the long term options to replace the Chimps.
 
Can someone please issue an update on Dartmoor Zoo. Dartmoor is my favourite Zoo and Benjamin Mee and his children are personal friends of mine. The last time I saw Benjamin he told me that thier was relationship problems with the African Lions. Can I please have an update on my favourite Zoo.

The lions are in the process of being reintroduced after having being separated for some time

Indeed - out of the seven baboon species kept in Europe they are now the most common UK species, with eight holders. Mandrills are close behind with seven UK holders. Then hamadryas with five, Guinea and drill each with three, olive with one, and yellow with none.
 
Great to see all of the wonderful developments and new species at Dartmoor - hope this continues :)

@Rupert89 do you have any idea what is being built in this section of the Zoo that is currently under redevelopment?

When Benjamin Mee came to visit me in Hospital a few months ago,he said that he was hoping to have 2 Amur Leopard enclosures built in the near future. One of these enclosures is planned to house a friendly captive pair of Leopards whose offspring will take part in the European captive breeding program. The other enclosure will be residence to a more fiery pair who will have zero direct contact with visitors or staff. The offspring of this pair the Amur leopards will then be released into the wild. An interesting fact to note is that the fiery pair of Leopards will be fed alive food,for instance Chickens. Don't feel to disappointed about not being able to see the fiery Amur leopards in person as there will be a screen showing the pair via the use of a camera.

@Rupert89 ,Is the new enclosure going to be for Orangutans,Sun Bears, female Jaguar,Crab Eating Macaques or Cheetahs? These are all of the projects that Benjamin Mee said he had planned. Out of all of the projects I think the most likely option would be aF emale Jaguar or Orangutans

@Rupert89 have their been any deaths,births,departures or arrivals this year? If the answer is yes can you please tell me about each one?

Pretty sure feeding them live chickens is illegal in the UK.

Its none of these, these will require major investment and i dont think dartmoor is able to do anything like that due to the current situation.

According to facebook the new species this year are von der decken hornbills, lilac breasted rollers and gelada. They have also had a potoroo joey and marmoset twins.

@Rupert89 I presume this construction work is not in preparation for the arrival of a new species then.
