The anniversary of myself joining Zoochat is on August the 11th which is five days from now however, this thread also brings up my 1000th post and I should mention some of the people, threads and controverseys that have shaped my time on here!
My first post was on an upcoming thread created by Ebirah766 known as Zoo Card Game. While Ebirah left the game it paved ways for Amur Leopard, The Gerneruk, myself and OstrichMania, we kept the game going some of us making cards and we had a thriving little community drawing in new members now prominent on the site to make their first posts, people such as Tafin, MonkeyBat and Junkelitteb joined our thread.
I also joined Zoo Decisions 3 but quickly fell out of it. A big thanks to Zoofan for getting me involved.
I made my first and only exhibit for country post for the country of Syria.
Gradually after Zoo Card Game fizzled out I started engaging myself on other parts of the forum, the Australia forum particuarly, I have posted a few reviews/walkthroughs of my local Zoos and aquariums as well as participating in general discussion of Melbourne Zoos declining collection.
I have had many a discussion on a variety of topics from Climate Change with Toothless Jaws and MRJ, Political topics and problems within zoochat with many members of the discord and debates on whether the new pokemon game is **** against BirdsandBats (hahaha).
Zoochat has been a great learning experience for me and i'd like to share some of my largest mistakes with the forum.
Mistake 1: The Zoochat guide to Coralciformes. I spent four hours compiling information about bee eaters for the original posts for this doomed guide, as an idiot i posted it without TLD's permission, could'nt be bothered bolding titles and missed many photos by other members. Lesson learnt: Don't undertake massive projects that the forum relies on without permission.
Mistake 2: Uploading a photo of Bottlenose Dolphins, titling them as Pacific White Sided and placing them in the wrong gallery. I still wonder how this happened and i'm ashamed of it.
Mistake 3: Placing my unpopular taxonomic opinon on the status of the Eastern and Gippsland Water Dragons, and displaying it on Zoochat Big Year. I don't need to explain how this went wrong.
Mistakes 4 and 5: Publicly looking for a moonlit sanctuary species list (when I could have just asked the owner) and messing up on my night tour review called Pied Stilts, "red kneed" (which don't exist) and worst of all calling KI kangaroos a subspecies of the Eastern Grey. Moral of the story, fact checks are nessacery.
Mistake 6: Calling the Brown Throated Sloth the most common sloth in captivity on a Zoo Card. Lesson: Don't make presumptions.
I've made other mistakes some larger than these but I would rather not share them as I would like to mantain my sanity.
Fun Statistics: Over 80 different Zoochatters have liked my posts and media.
Out of the 830 or so likes I have received 130 of those were received from two members alone (I won't name them)
My media has been mixed reviews, I have uploaded my best and my worst shots, from messy, barely recognizable shots to be identified by the three fishkateers (@vogelcommando, @Great Argus and @WhistlingKite24) that I am very grateful to for identifying my photos, to decently good photos of animals at the Melbourne Zoo, I have had both praise and complaints for my bizzare media.
My new Labriadae guide has been progressing well.
Thats about it, I'll tag members in groups, thanks to every one of you (yes even those that I am not too fond of), for making this community a great place to broaden my knowledge of animals and zoos, making it a safe place and memories to go along with it.
