Wildlands Emmen Wildlands Adventure Zoo, Emmen

Due to the COVID-19 virus the transport has been delayed, but elephant-bull Mekong will move from Wildlands to the Swiss Knie-Kinderzoo. In exchange Wildlands will receive the bull Timber from Blijdorp/ Rotterdam Zoo.
Blijdorp will receive Fahim from the Belgian Bellewaerde once the move is completed. Bellewaerde has planned to renovate their facility, as Fahim is their last elephant at the moment.

Wildlands is the first Dutch zoo to announce they will open again! It will be the 25th of may, you can only buy tickets online

Sad news : Ma Yay Yee lost the fetus. She showed already 2 weeks some problems and last night she had the miscarriage :(.
:(:(:(:(:(Now I put that post in Asian elephants in Europe. I'm very very sad. Ma Yay Yee has less appetite and does not behave completely normally. I hope it's just sadness and nervousness. I hope, she's fine. Is it possible to tell if the calf was a bull? So there will be only one calf from Mingalar Oo in the spring.

11 wild caught raccoons have been transfered from stichting AAP to Wildlands. These raccoons were caught in the Dutch province Limburg, originally they were going to be shot but Stichting AAP interfered. This would bring the total number of raccoons in wildland to 21, they already had 10 raccoons. Are the 10 raccoons that already were present in the park also originally from Stichting AAP?

While the aviary of the new "Feather Forest" has yet to be built, the first bird species are already in the new enclosure. A couple of weeks ago Snow geese, Cackling geese and Wood ducks have been released there, and this week Hooded mergansers and Buffleheads have been realeased in there as well.

If the aviary isnt there.. How are they keeping the bird?

Probably yes. In fact, i think most of the raccoon population in Dutch zoos are originally from Stichting AAP. Breeding raccoons in The Netherlands is banned.

Pinioned is permanent - not temporary !
I Know that. But i said clipped or pinioned and i put temporarily in parentheses. I don't know if they are clipped or pinioned, so if they are clipped they just temporarily cannot fly. Pinioning is also banned in The Netherlands.

Regardless of parentheses, if the birds lack of flight is temporary then they cannot be pinioned, or they would be permanently grounded!
Surely not all pinioned birds in NL have been euthanased or exported? If not, there will be pinioned birds around for a long time yet - given the life spans of many of these spp.

At an age of almosst 47 years Spider monkey breeding male Guannito died yesterday due to a cerebral infarction. Although he survaived this, his condition was so bad that the vet put him asleep.
Guannito was at Emmen ( first at the old Zoo ) since 1993.

Pinioning birds in zoos has been banned for a number of years now. Furthermore, it will not be too long before wing clipping goes the same way. Hence, I doubt seriously any of the new birds in Emmen Wildlands are pinioned. End of discussion.

5 Raccons escaped from there enclosure at Wildlands. It's not exactly known when they escaped but with traps its now tried to catch them.

After a short confrontation on the savannah between a rhino and a zebra, we regretfully had to put the injured zebra to sleep. In the 29 years that rhinos and zebras have lived together in Emmen, this is the first time that an incident between the two animal species has taken place. We therefore assume a one-off incident, but of course we will investigate the circumstances and determine whether additional measures are needed in the savannah. WILDLANDS regrets that visitors unwittingly witnessed this confrontation with a sad outcome.
