I was able to see the new Sea Lion Shores exhibit yesterday as opening weekend I was out at the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park. It is probably the most impressive sea lion exhibit I have seen personally. My previous favorite was Sea Lion Sound at St. Louis, but this new one completely blew me away. The rock work and all the small details incorporated throughout was top notch.

I would also be curious if at some point the zoo brings over a bald eagle or two to place in one of the canyon areas around the edge. There is some signage and a faux eagle nest talking about eagles along the coastline, and near there is a space that I think would make for a cool eagle exhibit up in the cliffs. Add some netting to that area and some slight modifications to the vegetation and there you have it. (Granted, keeper access and what not would have to be explored as well, just wanted to lay out the basics).

Turns out, I was there yesterday too! I agree it is an excellent new addition for Omaha’s Zoo, and a great start for the upcoming Pacific Northwest complex.

On a side note, today marked the first day since the pandemic closure that Kingdoms of the Night was open to guests. I’ll elaborate more when I get around to typing my review, but this was a total miracle because I went again today, and it was an absolutely phenomenal section.

That looks amazing! It reminds me of a hybrid of Fresno Chaffee’s Sea Lion Cove and St Louis’ Sea Lion Sound with more foliage surrounding it based on the photos I’ve seen for both

Glad you got to see Kingdoms of the Night! I wasn't sure when they would reopen that area as it is pretty popular with a lot of people, especially the swamp portion. Good to know it is back open.

Successful Rehabilitation of Snow Leopard Cubs

Omaha Zoo celebrates successful rehabilitation of two snow leopard cubs

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium has planned a celebration of the successful rehabilitation of two snow leopard cubs.

The one male and one female cub were born on Aug. 4 at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Illinois, and sent to Omaha two months ago. The two received treatment for “swimmer’s syndrome,” a congenital condition in which the cub is unable to tuck legs beneath the body to walk normally.

The cubs received physical therapy three times a day, seven days a week, and now can walk and run normally.
