Zoo Halle Zoo Halle news

These 3 are now joined by another male from Bojnice, to lower the inbreeding level of potential offspring.
I guess it may be that the Bojnice male will be the planned for breeding male?

I changed the AUTO CORRECT - that I did not see -.
Very annoying feature on your laptop and software!

If you by "Bounce" meant "Bojnice", than yes indeed it is that way as he is not that closely related to those two females. Also, the one that arrived from Liberec is apparently castrated/vasectomized.

One of Halle's iconic animal has died. Two-toed sloth Paula past away at an age of 51 year, making her the oldest known Two-toed sloth.... RIP Paula.

Has anyone visited the zoo recently and would like to share his thoughts on the zoo?
The collection has many highlights, the pictures uploaded in the gallery give quite a good idea of how the zoo is.
I'm asking this for anyone who's been there, is it, in your opinion, worth taking a day to go there if you're staying in Berlin?

Absolutely worth to visit Halle! Here is a long description on @Orycteropus 's website about the zoo in Hungarian with a lot of interesting photos. Here is the link:Zoo Halle

It is a zoo with a great atmosphere and location and an increasingly interesting collection (Silvery Gibbons were just added). It is however not very large (~10 hectares) and many enclosures for the larger animals are on the small side. If you are staying in Berlin day trips to Magdeburg or Leipzig (or even Rostock) would however make more sense. But if you are keen, you will find an interesting half-day zoo.

With careful planning, and a little discipline, it is actually possible to do Halle and Leipzig as a daytrip-twofer from Berlin :) something I managed in September 2018 without too many problems.

In fact, I managed it as a threefer with Wildpark Leipzig ;) but I think doing that is only really possible if one is already familiar with Zoo Leipzig and can get around it at 100% efficiency.

However, as a stand-alone zoo I can definitely recommend Halle as a zoo worth visiting - it's not in the big leagues like Leipzig or Magdeburg, but it's a very pleasant place.

Thank you very much, the translation from Hungarian was a little confusing sometimes but it does look like an interesting little zoo.

It's pretty amazing how in a 2 hours by train circle around Berlin, you can spend a week if not more visiting zoos.

Well, considering I'll try to shoot all the nice species and not run around, maybe a twofer with Leipzig Zoo is a bit optimistic, but Halle + Wildpark Leipzig is definitely an interesting option.

Thank you guys

I did the same few weeks ago and agree that you need to be familiar with Leipzig zoo to go 3 in 1. To combine Leipzig zoo with Halle is perfectly fine, though, especially if you are going there before 30.09, when Leipzig is open until 19:00. You will need some extra luck to see the Aardwolf in Halle (I have seen it very early in the morning) and can miss the Spix`s Saddle-back Tamarin because of Corona restrictions. Is it any species you are particularly interested in ?

I really take my time in zoos as I enjoy taking pictures of the animals, therefore the two in one Leipzig Zoo + Halle would definitely mean me rushing one of the two.
Not gonna lie, I'll take what I can get in these days, but I'll happily shoot the Persian squirrel, the Spix's saddle-back tamarin and with some more luck the Aardwolf if it's possible.
I'm not really aware of the measures in Germany yet, I need to dig in a bit.
