Hamerton Zoo Park Hamerton news 2020

A brief but satisfying visit today (finally saw the Maned wolf, but the quoll still elude me!) however a question:

What are the long term respective plans for the Syrian bear and Malayan tiger? Breeding, or is Hamerton to remain a “holding” facility for both?

I spent ages looking for the quoll only to have one pointed out, directly in front of me, asleep on a log...

Are the ringtails on show?

The ringtail (singular) is behind the scenes for the time being whilst they try and find him a girlfriend.

The long term plan for the brown bears is actually on a big sign by the enclosure! They're keeping this trio of bears until unrelated animals in Germany reach breeding age, and then the plan is to do a swap and keep either one (or both?) of the males, or the female.
Malayan tigers - they haven't had any success with breeding these two due to the male's high levels of aggression to the female. AI isn't being considered...so I think if the zoo want to continue with the subspecies they may need to consider an import due to the very small gene pool present in Europe at the moment.

I was at the zoo on Thursday (15th) and I saw 2 quolls :)
I think it must have been my lucky day, as on both my previous visits, the reptile & rodent building had been closed, but I saw everything inside and I even saw the grisons for the first time too. But my best bit of luck was being alone in the sloth building during a heavy and prolonged shower of rain, all the other visitors must have been shltering elsewhere, so I didn't feel guilty about staying there. The rain was beating on the roof. The gibbons were singing along the path. The sloths weren't doing much. But four squirrel gliders were out and about and I was taking as many photos as I could, when they were in the brighter parts of the exhibit. It was memorable.

Sadly they lost one of the male quolls very recently due to old age, so currently you can only see one in the last enclose on the right before the raccoons (that's where he is at the moment).

Very recently indeed - I saw the other one only 3 or 4 weeks ago!

Hope the Common Wombat, the joey born earlier in the year, moved to Zoo Duisburg, Germany two weeks ago.
Two weeks ago, our keepers said goodbye to 'Hope' our 1st baby wombat born at the Zoo earlier this year.
She has gone to Zoo Duisburg to start her new life and we have been told that she is settling in and doing well.

I visited today and there was one quoll in the nearest enclosure next to the reptile and rodent house:)
