I spoke to a keeper last month and they were both still there although they are separated as they didn’t get on, the parents still there as well xDoes anybody know what the current situation is with the Amur Leopards at Twycross? Are the two female 'cubs' (not sure on age - probably about 3 years by now) still there as well as the breeding pair?
Thank you![]()
Yes Twycross still has the 2 cubs. She was out last Sunday in the enclosureThank you for the information - I saw the snow leopard male passed away earlier this year, do you know if they still have the female?
What does the orangutan and rhino phase 2 mean? Will there be two enclosures for each species?Just been looking through there website and found a section tucked away on the support us section to do with the 2030 vision that inc a download on this vision which though not confirmed give the species destined for the area, not sure if these where said on here before of just speculated.

Further reading of this leaves me a little confused of the funding, the original investment of 55 million over twenty years which I think was through NatWest has already spent 10 million on recent exhibits giraffes, gibbons, chimps, rhino, and tiger leaving 45 million. This section of the development is 28 million of which they have spent 6 million I assume this is chimps and tigers with 12 million secured towards it leaving a short fall of 10 million which they are yet to secure. Whilst I don’t think this would be a problem for them over a ten year period it does state the science and consivation part of this expansion is costing 10 million. So was wondering if the bank / investments was not supporting this section more the exhibits, public sections which will lead to ticket sales ect if this was the case that would be 10 million spent, 12 million allocated leaving a further 33 million for other project not associated with the 2030 section. Some have been listed penguins, kids area and rhino 2 but this still leaves a lot of scope for a lot more redevelopment.
The Sumatran Tiger's are closely related.

Nobody really knows for now anyway the plan is being shelved till co-vid has passed, my best guess would have been for the orangutans to have had two enclosures opposite each other on the plan. Weather they where for the same group, to groups or another species is anyone’s guess. The rhino I would have thought would have been a continuation of there current build, mabey a more purpose built house rather than the old elephant house. I think they will have to do something that’s for certain in the next few years as all the old ape houses would need replacing in the next ten years, as they are becoming very dated and in disrepair I don’t think the public will tWhat does the orangutan and rhino phase 2 mean? Can you identify Jahlee's Maternal grandaprents who appear not to be listed? This might allow a Coefficient of Inbreeding to be calculated.

Let them get away with it for much longer espically with other zoo having much better ape accommodation.
Surely if the chimps were so bad they’ve got to do something about the orangutans as their enclosure is tiny, especially outside. For sure. The public were enraged ( quite rightly) about the dreaded Chimp Row, which was absolutely horrific. Thankfully, they now have Chimpanzee Eden, which is excellent.
I suppose the orang utan accommodation and remodelling would be at the top of their list now.Surely if the chimps were so bad they’ve got to do something about the orangutans as their enclosure is tiny, especially outside.
The original Chimpanzee cages were ten times worse than the current Orangutan area. A few years ago they extended and raised the height of the indoor Orangutan area which was formerly a lot smaller. However that was an interim improvement and I think that new Orangutan housing would be high on the list as this house is now the oldest of those still being used by Apes.Surely if the chimps were so bad they’ve got to do something about the orangutans as their enclosure is tiny, especially outside.
I was under the impression the former chimpanzee holdings were group accommodations rather than cages or am I wrong here (I visited Twycross 2 or 3 times in the past and chimpanzees were - for all personal intense purposes - never my prime interest in primates (sorry, nog puns intended)).The original Chimpanzee cages were ten times worse than the current Orangutan area. I could be wrong here but I’m sure there have been 3 chimpanzee enclosures over the years (before Eden), one being by the catch, now housing a group of Busch dogs although there is no sign to suggest this, one by the Eden which is just closed off full stop and then what I believe is the oldest down near the tapirs which I believe houses a group of monkeys now, as I say I may have missed some things here so feel free to correct me.I was under the impression the former chimpanzee holdings were group accommodations rather than cages or am I wrong here (I visited Twycross 2 or 3 times in the past and chimpanzees were - for all personal intense purposes - never my prime interest in primates (sorry, nog puns intended)).
