Orangutans in Europe 2020

Yes, she was born in Stuttgart on April 8, 1989 and moved to Hamburg in June 2016. She already died in September. Hamburg doesn't have the best media department.

A Sumatran birth at Prague today, 17 November 2020 - Pagy x Mawar.

I take it this is Mawar from Jersey? In their write-up about this birth they talk all about the baby's paternal side and ancestry as it is their own line, but seem to ignore hers!

Yes, Mawar came from Jersey.

And it´s understandable that the zoo media talks about Pagy´s ancestry. Male Káma is still popular among local older zoo supporters. He was hand-reared, paraded in children pram and clothes and as a baby he made many public appearances (also on TV stations) with the former zoo director Prof. Veselovský who himself was a national celebrity (imagine a Czech Mr. Durrell style of popularity). Also, when the Indonesian pavilion was first unveiled, the orang family (Káma, Upita and their sons Filip and Pagy) were the main attraction, they got a lot of media coverage.

Yes, I realised why all the emphasis was on the paternal side from the amount of comments about them. I remember Mawar at Jersey but in Prague she is the 'outsider'.;)

Sumatran, Revital, at Basle Zoo gave birth on 23 October 2020 but the baby lived for only two days.

A Sumatran birth at Furuvik, Sweden on 21 November 2020, Naong x Dunja. Their last offspring was born on 21 November 2017.
