What makes you different from other Zoochatters

Yes, if I had my own private collection, I would include them. For some reason, they intrigue me. Perhaps it’s because of their uniqueness or the fact that they’re mostly endangered or vulnerable

I totally understand that. I wouldn't say I'm as intrigued by endangered freshwater fish in countries like Madagascar or Mexico as other species.

But I'm certainly very concerned about them as they are very much underdogs in conservation and I feel there has to be much more done for them.

Funny enough that you mentioned Mexico, as I have a strong interest in fishes from the Yucatan peninsula

Interesting fish biodiversity in the Yucatan for sure but judging by your interest in Malagasy endemic freshwater fish the area of Mexico that I think you would probably find even more interesting in conservation terms would be the North of the country.

In that region there are many critically endangered freshwater fish species some of them endemic only to one small cave system or waterhole and of course there are even species that are extinct in the wild like the Potosi pupfish for example.

Ohhh, thanks for telling me. These are the areas I have a strong interest in:
Madagascar
Yucatan
Ceylon
Western Ghats
The islands of Indonesia
Orinoco River

You know it :p. Very interesting ecoregion. I want to explore it someday and see wild gaurs

Never been , but know people who have and yes it seems to be a very interesting place indeed.

The gaur, well that is an interesting species to want to see as most people go to India to catch a glimpse the famous tigers.

I'm not familiar with India or the Western Ghats but given the high biodiversity of the region I would imagine that your chances of seeing gaur and perhaps some of their predators like dholes would be relatively high.

I’ve heard that the Western Ghats is one of the strongholds of gaur

I think given the pressures on biodiversity in India the Western Ghats are probably one of the last strongholds of most wildlife.

Hence why I have an interest in the area, too bad if I have my own private collection, I couldn’t obtain gaurs straightforwardly:(. You’re right that India’s biodiversity is facing a period of uncertainty

Nevermind gaurs and a future zoo, aren't many endangered freshwater fish available legally and sustainably to keep in a home aquarium ?

There is another Zoochatter that you might find interesting who has some ideas on this @Radiotile

Well yes, but I would like a broad collection and not just fish and reptiles if you know what I mean

Yes, of course, but what I'm saying is why not start small right now ? If you have money and space then why not get an aquarium and keep some of these species that are legal to obtain and learning about their husbandry ?

Well right now, I still live with my parents are they refuse to get pets as we have six Siberian Huskies who have a high prey drive. So it’s definitely a plan to start my own collection once I move out (I’m 17 so perhaps next year or two years later)
