The proposed survey—preparation for oil drilling—would damage permafrost, threaten species, and leave lasting tracks in the tundra.

Late in the afternoon of Friday, October 23, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management quietly issued a plan to allow 90,000-pound trucks to crawl across one of the world's most remote and intact ecosystems in search of oil. The planned seismic survey is a key step in the Trump administration's ongoing effort to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling. But it's also one that threatens lasting harm to the landscape and its wildlife, and the government is giving the public just two weeks, until November 6, to weigh in.

This is so horrible. It really doesn't make sense to me why people just want to devastate this unexplored wilderness. It's so heartbreaking, I can't imagine what these people are thinking. I'm not trying to get political here, but I have long thought that the trump administration has done a terrible job at conserving our planet, and probably even made it worse.

It is November 9 today, so you posted this 3 days after the comment period ended.

It really doesn't make sense to me why people just want to devastate this unexplored wilderness (...) I can't imagine what these people are thinking.

They are thinking that it will make a lot of money for oil companies.

The same thought is had by the overwhelming majority of scientists, conservationists, environmental activists, policy experts, the EPA and NOAA under Trump's own administration, the majority of the American public, the UN, and most of the world's other nations and foreign leaders. At this point I think it's safe to call it a statement of fact.

Yeah, its pretty depressing that some people just think money is more important than wildlife. Doesn't sound pleasant to live that way. Alright, thanks for clearing my statement up, I'm glad that everyone agrees with me. Glad to know its fact!
