Adelaide Zoo Adelaide Zoo News 2020

*and in case you missed it, 0.3 Black-and-white Colobus Monkeys were imported from a zoo in France.

The import of colobus is great news. Does anyone know the subspecies makeup of the animals now in the country? My recollection was there was C.g.guereza and C.g.kikuyensis and mixes of both here prior to the new arrivals. But things have long stagnated since then. I'd be interested to learn whats survived and what the new ones are.

Now if only they'd import some dusky langurs....

They could pretty much import dusky langurs ad lib from range countries (where illegal trade frequently leads to confiscees ...).

Would be nice if some of the other regional zoos could get on board with both Dusky langurs and B+W colobus...

Agreed, But I feel its possible its to little and to late for the duskys now something could of been done much sooner if it was wanted by Adelaide zoo. I do agree and hope some of the other zoos within the region can jump on board with the Colobus species perhaps even one of the many Progressive regional zoo could play an important part here!

The zoo now have two remaining otter pups - a male and a female. Adelaide Zoo are currently running a naming competition for the otter pups:
Small-clawed Otter naming competition - Adelaide Zoo
The otter pups have now been named - the female has been called Mani (Thai-inspired name meaning “gem” or “jewel”) and the male, Riaan (taken from the Hindi words “chhota raja” meaning "princeling" or “little king”). The zoo now have a group of six otters: Log into Facebook | Facebook
