Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2020

It definitly says they have had a new arrival during lock down, but the big baby news may not mean in size, could be Mountain chicken

SLOTZ 2019 showed Black rhinos Ema Elsa & Magadi being reintroduced before he moved onto Flamingo Land. It could be Ema, they have had 2 successful calves together already.........

Don't think it's been mentioned already but zootierliste is now showing Chester zoo as holding a pair of orinoco geese - presumably for the Latin American walkthrough aviary opening in Spring

If I recall correctly, the tamandua have been off show for a little while now.

Another excellent advancement by Chester

Does anyone know who the father is? How many males does Chester have?

Chester Zoo does not hold a mature rhino bull at present.

At present, they maintain 2 juvenile males Gabe and Ike and male calf Jumaane (actually between calf-juvenile now). All offspring born between 2016-2018.

I believe the sire is Magadi - now at Flamingo Land.
The bull Magadi is the sire, Chester Zoo's only breeding male at the time.
BTW: Bull Kifaru II passed away in October 2018.

To believe is not much use (one could believe anything if it fits your general convictions or thought processes), it is to know for a fact that does it (and we are often prone to forget given all the so-called "fake" news lurking everywhere on the internet and all the crap that comes with it). Actually reading a paper or what seems to be a very difficult task for the digital mind set "modern" human(kind).

Chester Racecourse Becomes Official Supporter of Chester Zoo

Chester Racecourse has pledged its support for the UK’s most visited zoo by becoming the latest Official Supporter of the registered charity. The four-year commitment from Chester Racecourse comes in direct response to the zoo’s ‘Save Our Zoo’ campaign and will see the racecourse adopt the Zebra species at the zoo and provide an annual £10,000 donation towards the running of one of the zoo’s key conservation breeding programmes.

Both modern species of horse and zebra belong to the same Equidae mammal family, making them close living relatives and the perfect pairing to commemorate the new partnership. The Grevy’s zebra is the largest of three species of zebra and one of 500 animal species at the zoo. The population of Grevy’s zebra has declined by over 80% in the last 40 years, meaning they are classed as endangered, with less than 2000 individuals left in the wild.

Just a shame that I find out from Work That the new Stallion for the Grevy Zebras has been selected by the studbook, Arrived at Chester and introduced to the 4 breeding females, yet as a member of Chester Zoo this info has not been made available,
