Any updates for the rhino exhibit?
From what the video shows, the interior seems mostly unchanged. Before the rhinos arrived 3 years ago the exhibit was altered and re-landscaped, so that might be the only recent (if minor) upgrade it gets. The two viewing areas seem like they might get a small update, if only because the paths and surrounding landscaping will be altered. Especially the secondary viewing spot, adjacent to the future food/seating area, as it's currently just a concrete step you can hop up onto to get an okay-ish glimpse of the rhinos. That probably worked better with the exhibit's prior, somewhat taller elephants, so any improvement of that view would be nice.
For now. I would just like to remind you it looks like SDZ will be redoing their Asian exhibits next but I have faith they will make a good decision when redoing this (nervously looks at elephant odyssey). But in all seriousness, I think they will go more naturalistic like what they did with tiger trail. Now Los Angeles is getting a major overhaul and right now it looks like Asia is gonna stay naturalistic but anything could happen because of Corona Virus. They want the exhibit done by the Olympics in LA and I could imagine they have already been set back a bit and the temple would cut their planning time in half, but probably not. I am excited to see this zoo get the makeover it needs, and if a temple theme is what they think is best so be it.
Ah, thanks for that info! I've never had the opportunity to visit SDZ, and while I try to keep abreast of the news, I'm not the most informed on what they're getting up to lately. Good point on LA too, the pandemic + looming olympics definitely throws a wrench in any plans. I really dig the Thai architecture and China/India/Thailand theming and education around LA's elephant exhibit, so here's hoping they continue to develop things in a naturalistic fashion. Letting that stand out among natural exhibits and landscaping seems like a much better choice than the incongruence of jamming temple ruins or something right next to it.
