I am planning to go out with the family this week, but im stuck for places to visit, it needs to be reasonable distance from portsmouth

I have already been to marwell, longleat, blue reef, drussilas so please dont suggest those!

please all suggestions welcome

Chessington is open zoo only, see their website for details and prices and its just off the A3 and hour and a bit from pompey

What about the Isle of Wight places? Three at the last count I think, you could probably squeeze two into one day if you set off early.

I've done all three in a day actually! It was a bit of a rush but as they're all pretty small places, its perfectly do-able. Amazon World is mainly indoors as well, so perfect for a winter visit!

Also, if its open in winter, the New Forest Otter Owl & Wildlife Park is very good. Mainly British wildlife but good if you like otters - they also have foxes, pine martens, wildcats, badgers, deer etc. As the name suggests it's in the forest though, so you might prefer to visit in better weather?

Of course, by visting NFOOWP you have the chance of glimpsing the quarantined giant otter.

OK, I didn't know you'd been there before... although the chance of seeing a Giant Otter would be pretty tempting for me if it was local!

I went to the Weymouth Sea Life Centre years ago, and seem to think it was pretty good. Don't remember it that well though apart from the 'touch tanks', I guess if you like Sea Life Centres it's well worth a visit, but they do tend to have the same features crop up at a few of them.

Forgot to say that if you plan to visit any of the IOW collections - make sure to check they're open first! I have a feeling at least one of them may close in winter.

ive never actually been to a sealife centre! because the one in portsmouth is bluereef, the one at weymouth seems pretty good as it is a combined sanctuary with otters, penguins and seals.

Ah right - I didn't know about the outdoor sanctuary bit. That wasn't there last time I went, but as I say, that was a long time ago! Sounds well worth a look then, not the most unusual animals admittedly, but I always enjoy seeing otters and seals.

Yep, you are right. But for him to travel all that way to visit sealife centre, he'll want to go somewhere else for the rest of the day.:p

Cotswold WP and London zoo are about 1 hour away, whipsnade a bit further (if you go to cotswold you could visit me in witney)
