Yes, the chief executive says the zoo will be operated by the same company, but the site will have a different landlord - which happens to be another northern zoo.
Now that is strange! I'm surprised that any zoo has that much money to invest at this time, when most are worried about their own security. I can't help but think that some of the comments from South Lakes in that article won't endear them to their new landlords, either.
This is probably a really long shot, but this couldn't have something to do with the proposed Manchester Zoo could it? I wonder if they might be thinking long-term of taking over an existing collection instead of starting from scratch?

This purchase could possibly have connections with Manchester Zoo.
The identity of the northern zoo hasn't yet been revealed. But, if this was a zoo/wildlife park that was already open, presumably a partnership would have been publicly announced?

I would say that this is unlikely.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park have already invested a significant amount of money in their new extension this year. I don't think they would have the funds to purchase the land at South Lakes.

I can assure you that Manchester has no involvement. No, I couldn't to be honest... I was just as surprised when I heard the news when it first came out
Possibly Blackpool Zoo? I’m sure Parques Reunidos could afford it if they’re still the owners.
