ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval News 2020

Despite a 4,5 months closure the zoo received 1,2 million visitors. A great success as the first lockdown was for spring/easter holidays, the most important time for zoos in France.
What could explain a such important number :
- the opening of the Tropical Dome was for winter holidays so a great number of visitors came at this time (which is unusual for french zoos),
- the visitor number increased of 16 % during summer and increased also during september and october.
- the french rules for reopening were not as restrictive as in other countries (which was not good regarding the Covid-19 crisis evolution in France).

Le Zoo de Beauval dépasse encore le million de visiteurs en 2020 malgré le coronavirus

Among the more notable births at the zoo recently are:

1 Beisa Oryx
2 Persian leopards
6 Humboldt penguins
1 White lipped tamarin
1 Sitatunga
1 White faced saki

And 1 koala.

All bird aviaries will be redone by 2022. The large aviary is therefore logically maintained for 2022 or at worst 2023.
A tunnel under the road will be built to allow access to the southern entrance to the zoo and therefore probably a modernization of the entrance.
A new hotel will be well built to replace the old hotel in St Aignan. It will have 150 seats, so it will be the largest. Opening planned within 2 or 3 years.

All the old aviaries in the historical part you mean ;)
Great news but now what will be done for the refurbishment (size, species, number of animals, landscape)?
Will be interesting to follow.

And on the other side : refurbishment of the old felids enclosures and old monkeys cages is still missing :(

Yes of course.
In my opinion they will merge them and enlarge them in height. Hoping that each new aviary will be thematized a bit. In my opinion this will cause people to linger a bit more on this part of the zoo.
Or else shave everything and rebuild everything in a much more modern way.

What is certain is that the large aviary will be necessary for this.

In my opinion the renovation of the entire historic part of the zoo will follow. Rodolphe Delord wants to create a tunnel under the road to access the south entrance in order to "completely rearrange the south entrance" in order to perhaps create major changes in this part.

Beauval do some interesting improvements/refurbishments during this new closure :
- new malayan tapirs house with indoor pool instead of just horse boxes (next to the indian rhinos house),
- new patas house next to the gorillas island (before they "share" one of the two indoor gorillas enclosures- but they didn't share really for a long time as there were problems with the gorillas-of course the gorillas will have more place),
- works on a turtles outdoor enclosure next to the reptiles house (don't know more),
- refurbishment on the white tigers outdoor pool and planting in the enclosure,
- works on a the sea lions pool (don't know more).
So with the arrival of the elephant bull and the presentation of the doucs 2021 will not be too bad for visitors !
