Leopard and Goat Farm Private Collection in Cornwall

So to sum it up :
- Marbled cats
- Brown hyenas
- Grandidier's vontsiras
- Red-and-white giant flying squirrel
- Yellow-throated martens (what subspecies?)
- Javan ferret badgers
- Sun bears
- Clouded leopards
- White-striped dorcopsis
- Dusky pademelon
- Ring-tailed vontsira
- White-tailed antsangy
- Lowland streaker tenrec ?

And probably other species, the collection is incredible.
Yes and also, Maned Wolf, Bush Dog, Honey Badger, Southern Cassowary, Javan Binturong, Southern Cheetah, Spotted Hyena, Madagascar Flying Fox, Madagascar Crested Ibis, Golden Headed Lion Tamarin, Saddle Billed Storks, King Vulture, Sunda Gharial, Fossa. Although as they are involved in some international conservation projects its sometimes unclear whether they are actually housed there or abroad.

Edit: Looking at Mouse's post, this may not be 100% current.

Yellow-throated martens are the Javan subspecies (only ones outside Indonesia, to the best of my knowledge); there was also a recent mention of aardwolves there.

Hadn't heard about the Aardwolves ... that's cool. I'm seriously jealous. Amazed this is on my doorstep. And frustrated I can't get to see it!

I think you might be slightly underestimating how old Dalton is :p he's not old by any means, but I wouldn't exactly call him "considerably young" either!

So I think you are indeed a bit envious :p

I have a feeling some of the above-mentioned species are no longer at the collection - and I'm pretty certain the tenrecs and antsangy are gone now.

Well, the Antsangy in public zoos are probably from his collection?
And it's a shame for the tenrecs, none left in zoos either...

If I have to believe Zootierliste, a pair of antsangy were send to Jihlava zoo in 2019 from Feral Wild Animal Project. These could have possibly been the last antsangy or offspring.

so not the same as the Exmoor Zoo Yellow-throated Martens?

Exmoor has Martes flavigula aterrima, Northern yellow-throated martens which is the only subspecies represented within public establishments in Europe.

It's definitely the first time marbled cat has been kept in the UK since the species was held in Aspinall's collection.
Do you know when they were held there please Tim? I had no idea they'd been in the country before.

From 1983 to 1993 more or less. A little translation of the informations given on ZTL :
"When the Felis Phoenix facility (Italy) was closed down, the owner went to Howletts as curator together with part of his stock.
Thus, in 1982, 1.0 P. marmorata came to Howletts, while the remaining 1.1 animals went into private keeping. In 1985 the female (by now mother of the first marbled cats born in Europe!) came to Howletts.
In addition, 0.1 (1984) and 1.0 (1986) came from Los Angeles.
However, there was no breeding success!
One of the animals went to La Torbiera, Italy, on 10.05.1993. Whether it was the last animal from Howletts is unclear."

I don't know the exact dates but marbled cats were kept at Howletts in the 1980s and into the early 1990s. I never saw them on display but I was once fortunate enough to be taken "behind the scenes" to see an off-exhibit individual.

The species was also held London Zoo, long ago, and according to ZooTiereList, at Bristol Zoo too.

I don't think money is necessarily the issue. The issue is there are no bay cats in captivity (at least not known and legally held) and it would be nearly impossible to acquire one legally.

And even with an acquirable Bay cat, it would still cost a good amount of money to import it and then to feed it.
