The zoo posted a video of their Von der Decken Hornbill on their Instagram. It appears that “Mosi” is living in Meerkat enclosure.

On March 6th, it was reported that the carousel is now open to the public. There is a max capacity of 15 people at a time, while families can pay $100 for a cardboard cutout of their kid to "ride" the carousel for a month.

Amboseli, an African Lion born at Henry Vilas Zoo four years ago, has been transferred to Little Rock Zoo to form his own pride. Ansel is still at the zoo, but will most likely be moved to another facility soon.

According to a keeper’s Instagram, Andapa the female black-and-white ruffed lemur - one of the females that had babies a few years ago - is moving to another facility.

Henry Vilas Zoo Updates (5/2/2021)
- There are a few new signs around the zoo in front of some of the exhibits.

- The indoor meerkat exhibit has been revamped to house Von der Decken's hornbills. (I'll post photos of it later.)

- There's a new wooden shelter in the African lion exhibit.

- The outdoor aardvark area is done. It isn't too fancy, it's mostly just an outdoor area.

- The little aviary in front of the pavilion was still empty, but it had lots of enrichment items in it. It is definitely for some kind of parrot-like bird.

- The Barbados sheep exhibit is still empty.

- The area in front of the old American badger exhibit has a sign that says: "Badger Exhibit: Under Construction" and "Badgers can be seen in the badger house."

- Everything else was typical. It was just your standard visit. One of the Somali wild ass tried to attack a service dog, so that was interesting.

Have the indoor areas reopened yet?

Henry Vilas Zoo posted a photo of 11 young piranhas, so I'm assuming that these new individuals have been reintroduced into the Aviary building after their renovation as completed. The tank that formerly held the adult piranhas was empty for several months before the building was closed due to COVID-19.

I see they no longer list any areas as closed on their website. Is the zoo open yet? I would assume so as it doesn’t seem they are even requiring masks anymore.
