Species formerly kept in Brazil

Two male reticulated giraffes were rescued from a circus in 2008, and sent to Goiânia zoo. Unfortunately, they died in a very short period after their arrival. Nowadays, the country only keeps west african and rotschild giraffes in it's zoos.
Wait, West African giraffes? Also, doesn't the São Paulo zoo hold South African giraffes?

I didn't know that the BH zoo had crocodiles.
The individual of crocodilus niloticus from BH was held in the present broad snouted caiman enclosure.

The caimans, at the time, were held in that freshwater turtle pound near the former giraffe enclosure.

It seemed that the crocodile exhibit was much bigger than the present caiman one. I don't remember any exhibit with a big pond that had turtles while visiting the zoo and the only turtle exhibits I saw were the one in the reptile house and the one in front of the big Cerrado exhibit.

Ayana, the giraffe that lives in Itatiba zoo, came from BH, and is a west african one. All the giraffes in BH were from this subspecies, if I'm not completely wrong.

I thought the giraffe at the Itatiba zoo was a Southern one (West African giraffes are considered part of the Northern species/subspecies). Didn't the São Paulo zoo send some giraffes to BH? They sent various animals to Brasília and Rio de Janeiro.

The former crocodile exhibit is nowadays the caiman exhibit you saw in your visit. When you across the street from this enclosure, you walk a little to the opposite side from the elephants and you reach the former exhibit, wich now holds the turtles. Check it out: Google Maps

Not that I know. The first giraffes from the recent lineage at BH arrived in the 90's from Africa. They bred and one offspring was exchanged with one individual from Brasilia many years ago.

I think the exhibit was removed, because I don't have any pictures of it.

Anyway, I'm not completely sure about their subspecies. Our zoos never usually add the subspecies of giraffes to the signs, so I'm in doubt.

I think I've read somewhere on Zoochat that the giraffes at the São Paulo zoo were South African ones. I've heard something on the news about the giraffes coming to the Bioparque do Rio, I think they were negotiating the animals with the South African government, so the giraffe species/subspecies will probably be the South African one.

The São Paulo kept an interesting collection of cranes, with five to six species: sarus, blue, demoiselle, grey (and probably black) crowned, and wattled cranes. The sarus and wattled cranes aren't kept in Brazil anymore.

I have a slight memory of it, but sadly didn't take any pictures.
Don't blame you... Have to confess that turtle enclosures are the ones that take me less attention :D. I only remember well about this one because it's my home zoo, and also cause it held caimans before.

The Rio de Janeiro zoo probably kept masai giraffes (the first giraffes to live in the zoo, Iara and Garoto, were brought from Kenya and had a dark skin tone).

I think we should start searching for videos on Youtube about breeding facilities in the country (when I'm talking about those breeding facilities, I mean "criadouros", so nobody gets confused).
