Thanks for sharing @geomorph !

Love the zebras at Calgary zoo , very interesting appearance !

Also, regarding your previous post on whale / dolphin sculptures , I really like the Native American totem pole style orca sculpture, very striking!

It's hard to say aesthetically beautiful, but if you ask me and other Korean zoo enthusiasts to choose an impressive sculpture of a Korean zoo, most of them will pick the giant tiger sculpture of the Seoul Zoo.

Photo taken on March 5, 2019.
I haven't been to the Seoul Zoo since I took this photo.

This sculpture was made in 1986 and is the largest whole-body tiger sculpture in Korea, measuring 13 meters long, 4.3 meters wide, and 5 meters high.

Initially, the sculpture was designed to decorate a cruise ship running on the Han River, a river that runs through Seoul, but was left unattended on the Han River by opposition before being moved to the Seoul Zoo in 1988.

A photo that kept in the Seoul Photo Archive, which took at the sculpture when it was moved from the Han River to the Seoul Zoo.

This video of KBS news archive shows the situation at that time.

This tiger has been in front of the main gate of the Seoul Zoo for a long time since then, but was moved inside the main gate by construction last year. And now, it wears mask as part of the campaign against COVID-19.

A picture of a tiger sculpture at the Seoul Zoo, which was reported on the Korean Internet news a few months ago.

The words written on mask are as follows.

"Roar"
"Go away, COVID-19"

Overall, Korean zoos rarely have aesthetically beautiful statues, and most of them are simply factory-made sculptures that just for attract children's attention. There are many interesting sculptures at the Seoul Zoo, but I don't think I took pictures of the sculptures in Seoul Zoo.

Anyway, through this thread, I thought it would be very useful if there was a beautiful and well-described statue in the zoo. This thread is useful.

This is great stuff and interesting to have a Korean perspective on sculptures and zoo perspective, not sure I like the aesthetics of the giant tiger sculpture but the sheer size of it is really quite impressive.
