Buttonwood Park Zoo Buttonwood Park Zoo News

Are the indoor areas still closed?
I think they are, although they have said they moved numerous Rainforest animals into outdoor enclosures, including the sloths and goeldi's monkeys. Unless you plan on visiting for a specific animal, I doubt enough is closed for it to be not worth a visit.
On other thoughts, I wonder what this pudu exhibit means for the zoo masterplan. The pudu were originally supposed to be on the complete opposite side of the zoo, mixed with anteater and spider monkey. The area the new pudu exhibit is was listed on the masterplan as gibbons and Small-clawed otters. I seriously think the zoo is rethinking the masterplan, as the red Panda exhibit is located in an area labeled aviary, and the area they will be expanding Panda says langur monkeys. Does anyone know what, if any, parts of the masterplan are still happening? Or any predictions?

So master plans are very rarely followed to a tee. They are largely a framework of priorities and a potential look at the future. Its not any of the exhibits were planned in detail for the master plan, it was simply one idea. And I mean the zoo may be changing up locations of things but the collection seems to be similar to what’s planned. The new pudu exhibit looks pretty great by the way. So the plan if anything is being followed for species and the prioritization of projects, its just being altered location wise.

The zoo posted on facebook today something about their 7 new world monkey species. I know they have GHL Tamarins, Cottontop Tamarin, Emperor Tamarin, Goeldis Monkey, Pygmy Marmoset, and Titis- does anyone know what the seventh is?

I just saw this today and looked into it a bit, apparently its an new to the zoo species that they haven't announced yet. This info is in the comments of the Facebook post from Decemeber 14th.

Do you think it's the Spider monkeys from their masterplan or some other small Monkey for Rainforests, Rivers, and Reefs? (possibly another tamarin- such as Pieds or GLTs?, maybe Geoffroy's Marmoset?) If it's for Rainforests, some more animals could be used in the last exhibit, it always seems emptier than the rest of them

TBH I have no idea. I am hoping it is unusual. Since it's likely to be in the RRR building I don't think it would be Spider Monkeys and since they have GHL Tamarins I don't think they would get GLTs. This is pure conjecture but I don't know if RWPZ's Pied Tamarins left the collection or are BTS, so if they are still bts maybe they are going over to Buttonwood, again this is just speculation. I am a member at Buttonwood so if I hear anything I will post it.

The zoo announced what the 7th monkey species is along with 2 other new species.
The new monkeys are a pair of Ma's Night Monkeys!!!
The other 2 species are Southern Screamer & Panamanian Golden Frogs.
I know they wanted to get screamers to live with the Pudu, but the other two are very exciting additions! I love that Night monkeys are coming back to New England and golden frogs are definitely a great amphibian species. Love that the zoo is making smart choices for acquisitions. The little things can go a long way to improve the facility.

Excellent news! I hope to possibly visit buttonwood on my way up to cape cod in may, and this is all the more reason to go!

What other the six other monkey species at the zoo?

I wonder if the zoo's Atelopus varius are on-exhibit at all and/or if they're being replaced by the Panamanians.

I only ever remember seeing some basic Poison Dart Frogs on Exhibit. Are you sure Atelopus varius was ever on exhibit? I could just not remember them.

The zoo only has Dendrobates tinctorius (2 forms), auratus and leucomelas on exhibit. I wasn't aware of them of A. varius it would be nice if they went on exhibit too. The article said the frogs are going in the front lobby so I assumed the dart frogs were being replaced as that's where they are on exhibit. Can varius and zeteki be kept together?

The other 6 monkey species are
Bolivian Gray Titi Monkey
Cotton-top Tamarin
Goeldi's Marmoset
Golden-headed Lion Tamarin
Pygmy Marmoset
Emperor Tamarin
