Species formerly kept in Brazil

Next on our list is the greater kudu, which was only kept at the São Paulo zoo. They could still live on the zoo's farm, where they have lots of space and little noise and therefore can breed well. If those are gone, then the last individual to reside in Brazil was a female, exhibited in the African plains exhibit until 2015.

According to the Correio da Manhã newspaper, the São Paulo zoo acquired in 1974 two dusky pademelons, which came from Germany.

Wow, that's indeed something I'd not imagine... Do you have any idea where they were held? Probably in those now demolished exhibits, where the kangaroos were kept?

Yes, I'm also sure about São Paulo and Rio. Didn't know about the ones in parque dois irmãos until you said it, so I'm not sure about their subspecies too.
About São Paulo, in the old map archive I have, there were kept european individuals:

Taking a look at this map, I noticed that the zoo also kept fishing cats and African fishing eagles. The cats were kept in the area designed for smaller felids, like snow leopards (which were also kept there and were the first, as well as the only ones to live in the country) and the eagles were kept in the birds of prey section.

According to the map, the São Paulo zoo kept palm-nut vultures. That's strange, because I don't remember seeing any during one of my ~10 exhibits. I'd say they probably had, due to the institution's size and importance and because I don't know what species have been kept in the area designed for the birds of prey,
I accidentally said "exhibits" instead of "visits", sorry for my mistake.

Yeah, that's true. The african fishing eagle was kept together with the palm vulture. Check it out:

Seals or sealions ? or pinnipeds in general ?

São Paulo zoo keeps South American / Patagonian sealions.
Yes, I've seen the sea lion at SP zoo (and aquarium) and I know Rio keeps either fur seals or sea lions too, but my doubt was actually about the seals (not the fur seals, but the actual ones). SP aquarium keeps three individuals of Phoca vitulina, and I'm almost sure they're the only institution in the country that keeps any species of seal nowadays... (the now closed Niterói zoo kept leopard seals in the past, but I don't think they sent their specimens to any other zoos in the country when they closed the gates.)

Seals I'm sure are kept by other aquariums and most probably in the South, perhaps in Santa Catarina ?

I imagined Santos had already kept them at some point... Very nice archives! Thanks for sharing. Do you have knowledge of any zoo/aquarium in the country that still keeps seals nowadays?

Thats strange, I was sure that one of the aquariums in the South have them.

The south of the country has quite a lack of aquariums, as far as I know... Porto Alegre and Florianópolis don't have one, and Curitiba has a tiny one in the territory of it's former zoo (passeio público). The only fairly decent aquarium in the region that I know is the mentioned "Oceanic aquarium" at BC, and as I searched, they don't keep any seals...

Well then I don't know about seals, but I'm sure aquariums in Argentina and Uruguay probably have them.

Next on the list is the nilgai, whose status in the country is unknown. There is a chance we have some being kept in Curitiba and Santa Inês (Gilrassic Park), but I'm not sure if they're still there.
