Dublin Zoo ireland's first elephant birth

an elephant at the dublin zoo has delivered the first elephant to be born in the Republic of Ireland. The baby is a female and is expected to go on display within a month, when the new enclosure is unveiled. the birth marks the first step towards a breeding herd of aisan elephant sin ireland, the zoo said.
mum and baby are doing well, she's probably sucking a guiness or two after that 22 month gestation ;)
 
yea, it is, have they had the same history with eles as we have? in the likewise of stock for such programs?

what hint? i was on bbc website looking for something completely different and it came up. where's your post?

Interesting news, the mother came last year from Rotterdam Zoo and was already pregnant. Not sure Dublin have got a bull yet but when they do, this new female calf won't be related to it, which is good news for them too.
 
Dublin has no bull yet, the elephant facility is not yet finished. But there is no hurry to get a bull, Bernhardine just had the baby and won`t get back into heat within the next 2 years, and the second adult female Yasmin (Dina`s sister) is pregnant and due in 2008.
 
Perhaps when Dublin do receive a bull, they will also be able to accomodate the mother/daughter pair from Belfast for breeding, at least on a temporary basis. These are the only two other elephants in Ireland that are young enough to breed from again.
 
Judy and Kirsty were moved from Dublin to Neunkirchen Zoo in Germany in 2005 to make space for the construction of the new elephant facility in Dublin. Neunkirchen had built a new elephant house in 2005 and they want to keep older, non-breeding females.

No you wern't stealing my thunder, I was just curious to see if any one picked up on it;)
It is good news for Ireland, and with a second pregnant cow as well. Not long for us hopefully:D

Does that mean Belfast currently still have only the mother and daughter pair? If so maybe they plan for them to go to Dublin, that would be an excellent outcome(Belfast don't have a very good elephant house...)
