Does anyone have any information about the Micanopy Preserve? Are they AZA accredited? What is the species do they house? Do they give private tours? etc. Any information would be nice too.

Looking at their website they have a nice collection of including Indian Rhino, Lowland Anoa, Bongo, Dwarf Forest Buffalo, and others.

Thanks for the info!

I think Micanopy Zoological Preserve might have the only Suni in captivity, and I do not think that they are AZA accredited, it looks like a great place dosnt it :) ?

About the animals

A quick check online reveals that the animals used to inhabit Silver Springs on the jungle cruise ride before that ride was closed, just something that might clear up where the animals came from originally.

Bad news, it turns out that Micanopy Zoological Preserve no longer has Suni (Neotragus moschatus)

that first article mentions black duiker. Are they common/rare/average in the US?

I tried finding info on tbis place and came across this.

Levy County Commission Denies Exotic Animal Application - WUFT News

In case the link becomes dud, the article is about why Micanopy got denied from having the rights to keep rhinoceros and Cape buffalo.
An absolutely non sensical feature article with the various reasons for turning down planning application being baseless at best, invalid by far if not beyond the absurd. Micanopy Bhudy Holly has managed an exotic animal collection for a good number of years. I also think the article is old. The owner is held in high esteem in AZA and participates in a good number of breeding programmes. He sent out his GOHRhino pair temp to a major AZA zoo and these should come back soonish. They already bred at his facility.

Interesting, I have not head of this place before. I wish that there were more information as it is fairly close to me.

The article is from April 2018. There doesn't seem to be much on this facility online, which is a pity.

Rhudy is difficult to get a hold of. I have been to his facility twice (last time was 2013) and he has a great facility. Not only does he exchange animals with quite a few accredited facilities (White Oak, DAK, LA, etc.), he also does transfers as well

Is there any way for enthusiasts or the public to visit?

To be clear, Micanopy Zoological Preserve is not AZA accredited

The property was listed for sale in 2018

He is currently in the process of building an entirely new facility on a new piece of property. We do business with him fairly often as a transporter, and we’ve both received animals from him and sent animals to him.
Agreed like I said before he is held in good staid in AZA quarters. He is a member in ZAA and a commercial animal transport individual also internationally. Good to know the new facility is getting along.

His GOHR pair was sent to Fort Worth in 2018/19.

Do you by chance know who the rhinos are? Are they still in Fort Worth?

Oklahoma City Zoo welcomes two new Indian rhinos"vulnerable,Conservation%20of%20Nature%20(IUCN).

I believe Fort Worth's pair from before the construction of the new elephant exhibit went to Oklahoma City. At OKC he fathered a calf with a different female. Sadly he passed a week after her birth though in late 2020.

I am sorry ..., I got things mixed up accidentally and the Micanopy pair was actually moved to Columbus - The Wilds.

The current The Wilds male Jahi was bred to the resident female Sanya and a female calf Rohini. He is destined for a move on ..., now. The Micanopy male should serve as the breeding male for the immediate term.
