If I am correct, this little zoo doesn’t even have it’s own thread?
This “grown out of hand backyard project” is one of my favorite little places in the Netherlands. The owners are passionate Indonesians with home-sickness, which results in a very well themed little park, with a choice species selection (asian palm civet, fishing cats, leopard cat, jungle maina, sumatran treepie, etc) and a choice menu at the little restaurant
I visit often and today was my first time for a while. Some observations from today:
- the small greenhouse is closed. On some of my visits the last year orso, this sometimes held a fire-tufted barbet. According to personnel, this bird goes off-show sometimes to allow the smaller birds in the greenhouse to breed. No idea if it’s still there…
- the lone sumatran treepie (Dendrocitta occipitalis) is still going strong. It’s not signed, but still there…
- new species was a couple of very nervous asian pied starlings (sturnus contra). I’m not keeping an exact list of birds seen, but a first for me if I’m correct. They were held in an aviary that previously held pallas’ squirrels (not seen).
- a few birds seem to have left the collection or were bts (two species of laughing thrushes, red-billed blue magpies, red-billed leiothrix).
Too bad the weather was s****, or it would have been an enjoyable afternoon. At least the food was fine
