"ooh, I want that camera!"

I think it's because I'm quite short with small hands, that my camera/lens looks pretty immense and it's always bugged me.

how do you ignore other people?
some people are really nice, too nice because they tell their kids to "mind the gentleman with the camera" and it makes me back away because i want their kids to enjoy the animals.

but then there are are some who i swear stand in the way of a good view, because I have a big camera ("don't mind that flash git" was one remark aimed at me in the past)

I really do wish I could go around europe again as an ignorant englishman, not understanding what people are saying around me.

I'm really not that interested i other peoples' camera gear ,,,, only their advice on how to get better photos at certain zoos/exhibits
 
I'm short too, but I find it quite an advantage when there are crowds. I jostle my way to the front, and no one bothers, they just let me through. I always let the kids stand in front of me though, I'd never jostle my way through children.
I also have a decent sized camera lens, along with a backpack case containing another camera. I've never heard anybody remark about it, but then, it wouldn't bother me if they did! :D:D;)
 
@qthemusic I didn't realise I posted this, hahaha! I was a little exhausted (drunk) that night.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I hear comments, or have someone directly ask me about it, on almost every zoo visit.

True, but I would rather have them be 50 meters away than to be like the cell phone numbskulls who walk right up to a bison or bear in Yellowstone (or wherever) because they don't have a telephoto lens!

I haven't had anybody say that to me, at least not in earshot. It could be because I have a frame that fills a doorway. It also allows me to see over most crowds, definitely an advantage if trying to view the Mona Lisa.

It does have disadvantages though, trying to fit into an airline seat for a trans Pacific flight, or trying to find decent cloths that fit.

If people comment on my camera gear, I say something like *yes, it is great for photographing wildlife".
 
yeah most of mine look at the size of the camera lens, i just joke and say ive seen bigger, i have had a few camera folks ask if they can have a go with my Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3, always surprises them how heavy that brute is
