Terre de Singes Terre de Singes news

In September 2016, Terre De Singes opened. The park is adjacent to Le Parc Des Felins and is operated by the same owners. The new park specializes in primates and birds. Visitors can buy a ticket to either facility or a combination ticket to visit both. Both facilities now share a common website (and Facebook and Instagram feeds) which go under the umbrella name Parcs Zoologiques Lumigny. Here is the website: Accueil - Parcs Zoologiques Lumigny
 
On January 31 the Facebook page of Parcs Lumigny announced a new species arrival. The short clip shows two medium size crates but the species of animal is not revealed (and has not been revealed in any subsequent posts). Since the Facebook page is for both Le Parc Des Felins and their sister zoo Terre de Singes, I don't even know if it is a cat or primate (though I suspect the latter since they have just about every cat species they can feasibly get).
 
Terre de Singes received patas monkeys and white-faced sakis for this year. I don't remember well but maybe another tamarin species has arrived.
For me, this park is without interest.

I don't know what will be new at the Parc des Félins.
I never understood why they do not have China leopards ? The only simple species to have they missed.
 
I was very very impressed with Le Parc Des Felins and their care and commitment to their animals and their staff (particularly the education officer Aurelie who was great to talk with ) when I visited.

I think that this new concept of primates is a really interesting one and I wish it all the success.

It would be great to move all those lemurs to the primate park too as I did think they looked a little out of place thematically alongside the felines.

I agree wholeheartedly. The lemur island at Le Parc Des Felins is just bizarrely out of place. In my three trips to Le Parc Des Felins, with a combined total of roughly six days, I have not once stepped foot onto the lemur island!

I really liked the lemur walkthrough and thought they had a great variety of species and that it was a brilliant feature but I just thought it was a bit thematically out of place.

I'm glad they can keep the lemurs by moving them to this new primate area where they will look fabulous and be ambassadors for their species.

Has it been confirmed they are moving them? We only said it would be nice if they did, I don't know if they actually have plans to do so.
 
The issue with Terre des Singes is that it is built mainly on grassland. While this allow to provide great naturalistic enclosures for large groups of savannah monkeys such as geladas, it is a lot more difficult for forest-dwelling species which only have wooden structures to evolve (excepted small south-american monkeys that are a lot less destructive).
While definitely out of the theme, the lemur island at the Parc des Félins at least have some trees so I would be in favour of keeping it as it is currently, unless another carnivore could be housed without major works.
 
If the lemurs being in the cat section don't cause a problem for the average zoo guests, zoo management, and the animals then I see no reason to move them to the simian section.

The zoo is itself a thematic one based on felines and the new twin park is for primates so although it's not a problen it makes greater sense.
