ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2021

Thirty hazel dormice bred and reared at London Zoo have been reintroduced to Lancashire - it is the most northerly reintroduction of the species in Britain so far and these thirty animals include the thousandth hazel dormouse released since the UK-wide breeding programme started fifteen years ago.

Not sure if I have missed any thread here that gave an update on the up grade to the Snowdon Aviary?

Revised work is due to restart imminently, with removal of the outer mesh (would be an interesting photo if anyone could get one!)
Thank you for the update. Any idea of the expected completion date?. I assum its still for Black and White Colobus Monkeys?.

Where are these being kept at the Zoo ?

I can't remember having seen any dormice on display.

I know they don't make for good exhibits and that they are being captive bred for reintroduction (and therefore will be kept away from view) but I would have expected that they would keep one or two on to display to showcase their conservation work in the UK.

Shame that the Snowdon Aviary is just being used for the Colobus Monkeys and not for the original purpose and that was a mixed enclosure.

Would be great to see other mammals and birds.

True, but the fact that it’s being repurposed at all should be a relief particularly when considering what’s been lost in the last few years (Aquarium, Reptile House etc)

Shades of the antsangy here (that was viewable if you were lucky and stood in the right place but otherwise firmly offshow)...

Thanks for the location, might wander along after lunch and go and take a look.
